Chapter 599. Something Different
It had been a couple of days since the conversation with Louis, and during that time, Mauve hardly ran into him except during meals.
Jael was also equally busy. She wondered what was happening with the Palers, but he never gave her too much information, just a few words or so.
She wanted to pester him, but she knew he would want her to concentrate on getting better, and she was doing her best to keep track of her state of health.
Mauve sat upright on her bed as she waited. Jean would be here soon for her usual checkup before she retired for the day.
Recently, the answers to his questions hadn’t changed, and that was because she didn’t feel any worse.
To be honest, she felt all healed up, but unfortunately, the white patches all over her skin said otherwise. They were fading, but excruciatingly slowly.
They still covered her arms, abdomen, and thighs. She winced when she looked at them, and at the rate they were fading, she was certain she would have them for a very long time.
"Your expression never lies," Jael said as he smoothed her forehead of creases. "You don’t have to worry; you’re healing well enough."
She raised her head to look at him and smiled. "Still," she said, lifting one arm to point to the patches with her finger, "there has barely been any difference. The ones on my abdomen are the worst."
