Chapter 391. Someone’s Daughter
Mauve looked at her father with a stunned expression. She could not believe the words that just fell out of his mouth. Indeed, her ears were deceiving her.
"Why? You have never cared about what happens to me. Why put any effort now? What are you hiding from me? Why am I really here?" She rapidly asked as she threw caution to the wind. There was technically nothing to lose.
"What are you talking about?" He looked at her with a massive frown on his face.
"You’re here because it’s what’s best for you. I realized my mistake, and I am willing to make amends. Is that not enough reason?" He asked, staring at her intensely.
Mauve winced as the same set of words were thrown at her again. Did he really think she was that gullible?
Mauve shook her head, "No, it’s not. Are you trying to get back at the vampires by keeping me here?" She asked.
He looked taken aback but quickly covered his expression. Mauve’s eyes widened in horror. She had simply said the words on a whim, but his reaction was proof enough that she was right on the mark.
"What? I am not that important. Why would you do that, and do the people not mean anything to you?" She asked.
Trying to rile the vampires up was a huge mistake. Even she could clearly see that. If they could attack the castle on a whim and cause that much damage, why give them a reason to attack? Though she doubted this was a good enough reason.
"Oh, relax. You’re right, you’re not that important. You have only one role, and that’s to listen to what your father says and respond accordingly. That’s your duty to make up for your existence."
Mauve winced. Surely, her ears were deceiving her, and her father didn’t just say that to her. She blinked, blinked again, hoping that somehow there would be a reset on what he just said to her.
