Chapter 286. Revert To The Old Ways
"I am saying if you give them such freedom, they tend to overextend and the next thing you know, we have a problem on our hands. A problem that would be very difficult to solve and would end up requiring extreme measures on our end. We can’t afford that, we already have bigger problems, Sire."
Mauve felt the food in her mouth go sour. Was Haney talking about returning to the time when vampires ruled humans with fear? Saying rule was a nice way to put it, it was more like a free-for-vampires banquet.
Or was he referring to the fact that she could freely roam the castle and wasn’t confined to her room or was it both? One thing she was certain about was that Haney didn’t like her relationship with Jael.
Jael pushed his cutlery forward and leaned back, he stared unblinkingly at Haney as he processed his words.
"I do get what you mean," Jael said with an expression that Mauve didn’t understand. "However, we haven’t had any problems so it is only safe to assume, we won’t. No need to worry about a problem if it doesn’t exist."
"Great words, Sire. However, I was merely expressing my concern. If there is one thing we know about humans is how ungracious they can be and if we have this type of relationship now, they might try to take advantage of it."
"I understand your concern, Haney but they know better if the rules are changed, we would be the one to profit more even though both sides would still incur some losses. This is easier on everyone."
"For as long as we have the upper hand, I think it is best we don’t show too much leniency as they might be too comfortable and we would have an issue on our hands."
Mauve felt herself grow colder, she forced herself to eat but she couldn’t taste the food and it was even harder to swallow. She followed their conversation with a twist in her stomach.
She knew a lot of vampires didn’t like the alliance and would prefer things were back to normal and vampires and humans were in conflict, where they could take as many humans as they wanted as their blood slaves.
However, this was the first time she had heard a vampire speak about it. She was certain they got more than enough blood every month. What else did Haney want from them?
