Chapter 269. They Left
Mauve approached Jael with hesitation. Was there something she was missing? He seemed to be in a more bad mood than when she saw him earlier. Did something happen before she showed up?
She got closer and Erick stepped out of the way for her. She stopped in front of him and tucked some of the loose hair behind her ear but she didn’t get it all out of her face, some hung by the side of her face.
He was dressed in all black, even his shirt was black. Mauve wondered if it was to blend in with the night. He would definitely be hard to find. His black hair looked hand run even though it hasn’t been minutes since he finished his bath. Mauve smiled to herself, this was typical.
"I guess, you’re ready to go," she managed to say when he didn’t say anything to her.
"Yes," he said and tucked her hair properly.
His gaze softened as she got close enough. Maybe she had read it wrong. He still seemed stiff but he wasn’t as cold.
"I hope you get there safely," she whispered with her head down.
It was only proper for her to be worried. Palers were still out there and there was a high chance they would run into one.
"I’ll try," he said, lifting her chin so she was forced to look at his face.
She stared at him for a while but he did not attempt to move closer or say anything else. Unable to take it anymore, she pulled her chin from his grip and closed the gap between them, wrapping her hands around him.
It would just be gone for the night, there was no reason to be apprehensive. Truthfully, she didn’t want him to leave but that was most likely her dependency talking. It was just a day, he would be back before she could start to miss him.
