Chapter 230. No Supporters
"Sire," Lord Garth called as Mauve picked up the cutlery.
She turned to look at Jael and he looked engrossed in thought. She wondered what he was thinking about and looked away only to see Lady Sabrina staring intensely.
It took all her willpower for her not to jerk in fright. She quickly brought her eyes down and began to eat. She fluttered her eyes upward after a couple of seconds but Lady Sabrina already looked away.
"Sire," Lord Garth called again when he got no response from Jael.
"Lord Garth," he finally replied coldly.
"I know this is not the right time to discuss this but I can barely hold in my curiosity. Were you indeed attacked by two palers simultaneously?" Lord Garth asked, his expression showing a mix of worry and interest.
Mauve’s heart skipped a beat at the question. Her memory flooded and she looked at Jael to distract herself.
His grip tightened on the spoon and for a second Mauve thought it might break. Lord Garth didn’t notice as he had his eyes glued to Jael’s face.
"I am afraid, yes," Jael replied stiffly.
Lord Garth’s eyes widened and a brief look of fear passed across his face. "One Paler is enough trouble, two. I am truly glad you’re alive."
"Hmm," Jael replied, his eyes moved sideways to stare at Mauve and she quickly looked away. She would have sworn he looked concerned but she was probably imagining that. Besides, she didn’t stare at him long enough to be certain.
