Chapter 143. Greedy
It has been thirty minutes, Damon heard a loud voice say between his nap. He slowly raised his head up and stood to his feet. "Shall we?" He said and took off.
He kept his eyes peeled and his ears to the ground as they stepped into the Nolands. He could feel that he wasn’t the only agitated. He couldn’t blame them. A night like this has probably never been imagined.
The moon shone brightly in the sky as Damon raced through the drylands. It was always ironic how No lands was in the middle of prosperous lands, yet it was this dry. It was almost as if it was cursed.
Damon heard an unusual sound but he didn’t slow down. Whatever it was, he intended to outrun it. He didn’t have any time to fight. Mauve life depended on him and this was a task the King had entrusted him with, he intended to do it properly.
Damon concluded that the sound was a product of his imagination as nothing came out of it and they got to the bother of Nolands without incident. The first thing they were greeted with was wildflowers. One couldn’t see that in the Nolands.
"I think, it’s best you three stay here," Damon said as they crossed into human territory. "You can hide in the nearby cave in the day."
"Why?" One of them complained.
Damon sighed, he hated that he had to explain something like this. "Five vampires strutting into the human territory without prior warning would be sure to give them ideas. Besides, they don’t take kindly to us and we are not trying to frighten them."
"Okay," the guard said, "But we expect to be here nightfall."
Damon shrugged and started walking away as Zane followed behind him. They walked further into the human territory until dawn.
"We have to find a place to lodge, the sun will be out soon."
