Sauron was “late” because they had encountered a swarm of living corpses on the road.
It was not by chance that Zero and Teddy saw corpses moving around in the night camp outside the outskirts of Silver Tree City. The living corpses of the Silver Tree City and the others who had migrated from who knew where quietly gathered in the ruins of a city on their way to Remutt.
Sauron had been on the hunt day and night, and at night the living corpses roaming along the highway smelled the fresh flesh of the members of Sauron’s band, and that was the first time they had encountered a battle.
