"An incident from a year ago?" Shangguan You looked at Shangguan Rou, her expression puzzled. She was no longer the original Shangguan You. If the *original* her had heard these words, the suppressed nightmares would surely have resurfaced, causing her to withdraw once more. She sneered inwardly.
"Ah, Sister You, I didn’t mean to! Please don’t tell Grandfather, and don’t tell anyone else, okay?" Shangguan Rou covered her mouth in panic, feigning fear, and pitifully tugged at Shangguan You’s clothes.
"Rourou, don’t talk nonsense. Nothing happened to Youyou a year ago; those people didn’t die because of her, nor were they raped," Li Wanying interjected sharply. Her words, seemingly caring, were actually filled with extreme malice.
Good thing it’s me, Shangguan You thought, sneering inwardly. Anyone else would have been driven mad all over again.
"Is that so? If Auntie Li says so, then I’m relieved. But all these things Auntie Li mentioned... are they from a TV show?" Shangguan You asked, her face bearing an innocent smile as she looked happily at Li Wanying.
Li Wanying and Shangguan Rou instantly froze, both looking incredulously at Shangguan You. In the past, the mere mention of these things would make her either scream and shout or shrink into a ball. Now, she seemed to have truly forgotten. Although they had hypnotized her to forget that particular memory, it was their constant whispering in her ear that had caused her mental state to fluctuate, eventually leading to her being sent away.
Watching the two stunned women, Shangguan You’s lips curled into a cold smile. "Auntie Li, Rourou, Youyou is hungry. Is there anything to eat?" she asked with a light laugh, seemingly oblivious to their discomposure. She affectionately tugged Li Wanying’s clothes, cooing, "Oh, look at me! I was so happy to see Youyou that I got all muddled."
Li Wanying’s face showed a tender smile. "Rourou, you keep Youyou company. I’ll go prepare some snacks. Dinner will be a while, so just have some pastries for now." Li Wanying affectionately patted Shangguan You’s shoulder, gave Shangguan Rou a meaningful look, and then slowly walked downstairs.
