The people following him immediately drew their weapons in unison when they heard him.
Too many had come, and they were regular soldiers; many were unconvinced, yet they harbored concerns and temporarily ceased their assault. However, they did not lower the weapons in their hands, hesitantly looking at all the guards and soldiers.
"Everyone, put down what you’re holding and listen to my words," Alhatu said, relieved to see the conflict had finally stopped, "This prince knows you hate the Prince of the Northern Land, and as warriors of the North Country, this prince shares your sentiments."
"Stop with the sentimentality," someone shouted defiantly, and the guards immediately prepared to rush out and take the heckler away for punishment.
Alhatu raised his hand to stop the guards and then gently asked the shouting person, "What makes you think this prince is being sentimental?"
"Chu Suifeng’s woman is hidden in your Residence; why don’t you hand her over so everyone can vent their anger?" The enraged person questioned without hesitation, having lost their reason.
"Just because the wife of the Prince resides in this prince’s Residence, you all started a commotion?" Alhatu’s smile on his face turned cold, "I ask you, why should our warriors go to attack the Northern Land?"
This question was sharp, and the people started glancing at each other, with no one willing to be the first to speak.
"If you won’t speak, then I will," Alhatu grew increasingly passionate, "Our warriors went in large numbers to attack the Northern Land, all in the hopes that everyone could live a better life. Our North Country is vast yet scarcely populated, a harsh, cold place. Although everyone works hard, it’s very difficult to have enough food in winter. No matter how hard we work, it cannot compare with the prosperity of Daqin. If we had enough food, spacious houses to live in, warm clothes to wear, would we still be willing to pay with our lives?"
