Chapter 12: New Attendings
As soon as Nioh stepped out of the room, he was greeted by a trio standing in attention. At the forefront was X still rigid and composed, with two others flanking him.
"Young Master," they said in perfect synchronization.
'They're really taking this seriously,' Ekoh said, as Nioh stood silently observing their postures and the unwavering precision of their submission to him a complete newcomer. His newfound father had clearly cultivated a loyal and disciplined following.
"There's no need for such formalities in the future," he said, dismissing the display with a casual wave.
X in the center stepped forward. "My name is Xavier. I am—no, I was a lieutenant. I've been reassigned as your chief of security. You can call me X." His voice brimmed with pride and his stance was equally resolute.
He gestured to the young woman at his side. "This is Marsai. She will oversee your education on noble customs and rites."
Marsai raised her head. Her short blonde hair framed a round face, and her thin, elegant frame was accentuated by the sleek military uniform she wore. "At your service, Young Master," she said with a slight bow.
"And this," X continued, "is Cryo, your assigned squire."
Cryo raised his head, his gaze meeting Nioh's with unmasked scrutiny. He was taller and older perhaps nineteen or twenty years old. He had the proud bearing of someone born under a fortunate star. The energy around him was tangible his biocore radiated pureness. Yet his expression was hard, his frown was deepening as he took in Nioh's disheveled appearance in prison clothing.
"He has an S-tiers biocore" Ekoh identified.
"I take it this one isn't satisfied with his position or is it me that he finds lacking?" Nioh interjected, with a dry tone. Cryo said nothing, while his silence only deepened the tension.
