Chapter 159: Human Inventions
Maybe Nureo was justified in his decision, Dave needed to mature before considering marriage.
"Shouldn’t you give up and return once you are mature enough to handle a woman?" Damien suggested.
"I don’t need time to mature, I can handle it well," Dave refused, detesting the thought of being separated from his mate for an extended period. The idea of Charlotte possibly forgetting him or marrying someone else disgusted him.
Charlotte belonged to him alone, nothing and no one could come between them.
"Dave, have you ever been in a serious relationship?" Damien asked, even though he already knew the answer, attempting to make a point. The only relationship Dave had that was somewhat serious was with Evelyn, but that didn’t end well.
"Yes, not really serious, but it was a relationship," Dave answered, reflecting on his time with Evelyn, an 18-year-old ambitious woman.
"Did it end well?" Damien inquired further.
"No, because she decided she didn’t want me. It wasn’t my fault it failed," he defended himself, knowing he had done nothing wrong to cause her dissatisfaction. He had money, looks, intelligence, and knew how to handle a woman in bed. What else could she want? He never made her feel sad or guilty, shouldering the blame for every action to make her happy.
He loved her beyond anything a man could fathom, yet she repaid him with heartbreak. If not for her, he wouldn’t have ended up hurting his mate. He would have embraced her the moment she entered his life.
