Chapter 145: Defending a rogue
That appeared to be a reasonable suggestion, but it fell short of convincing her.
"How do I care for someone who doesn’t seem to require it? He only seems willing to open up to you, maintaining a distance from the rest of us," she inquired, a disapproving expression on her face.
"We all need time. Just as I am giving you a month to decide, give him a chance," he suggested, and her dissatisfaction was evident.
"This is different," she argued.
"How?" He inquired.
"He knows what he wants, he’s determined. I..." she paused, realizing what she was about to reveal. No, Aurora, you shouldn’t let him know that, he might get the wrong idea.
"You don’t know what you want, you are doubtful," he finished her thought, and a hush fell over the room.
Their eyes locked, and neither made a move to break the gaze, unspoken words communicating between them. He understood her vulnerabilities so well, she was completely exposed to him.
Damien was considerate of her fears, which explained his leniency. If he succumbed to his primal instincts, she would already be mated to him. If only she knew how hard he was resisting her, and encountering her every day only intensified the struggle.
Just a glance at her was enough to tempt him to cradle her in his arms. A glimpse of her lips was sufficient to compel him to bring her into his room.
"I don’t know," she finally admitted, breaking the eye contact first.
