Chapter 68: Soft heart
Upon reaching their usual garden, Aurora discovered that Theresa was absent and decided to wait for her. She couldn’t help but wonder if her in-laws’ presence had caused Theresa’s absence, as it seemed like Theresa was expected to cater to the guests as the mistress of the house.
Furthermore, Aurora wondered if Theresa felt hurt knowing that Damien didn’t want to marry. Would Theresa be okay with her grandchild being born to a slave? Or was she just pretending to be fine for Damien’s sake?
"I am sorry darling," apologizing for being late, Theresa rushed into the garden, her face glistening with sweat.
"It’s alright," Aurora assured Theresa that she wasn’t bothered by the lateness. She could see that taking care of guests wasn’t an easy task.
"Who knew my mother-in-law would be so bothersome?" Complained Theresa, wiping off the sweat from her face in frustration.
Laura’s demands were high, and Theresa had to find people who could fulfill her wishes. Dealing with just a part of the west was already challenging, but Laura’s extravagance was beyond what a Lady of the west personality should be.
"If things get too busy for you, feel free to call for me," Aurora offered to help and served Theresa the tea brought by Theresa’s handmaiden.
"Thank you, Aurora," Theresa said, gratefully accepting the tea and sipping it hurriedly, showing her exhaustion from running errands.
"I wish I could receive your help, but my son wouldn’t allow it," Theresa said, shaking her head wearily. No one seemed to care about how she was managing everything, assuming she could handle it all on her own.
