Chapter 51: His past mistake
Seeing her up close brought happiness to him, she seemed to be doing better than he expected. Unlike the past, where she was completely broken, now she looks happy and free.
It had been a moment of despair for both of them. He was willing to protect her even if it meant being separated from her, and confined behind bars until her last days. If it was the only way for her to be happy, then so be it.
As he saw her stagger, his instinct was to reach out and help, but reality struck him, and he realized she was forever out of his reach.
"Why did he have to appear," she muttered to herself, helping herself up. Her thoughts were muddled, and she desperately wanted to see his face. However, she scolded herself, remembering what he had done to her years ago. "No, Scarlet, don’t forget what that jerk did to you."
She chided herself for even considering accepting his help and resumed walking. However, after some time, she realized that the walk back to the mansion felt much longer than she expected. Perhaps it was because she wasn’t yet sober and couldn’t walk properly.
Lost in her thoughts, she suddenly stumbled upon three men smoking.
"I am sorry," she apologized, bowing her head in exhaustion from the long walk. The men acknowledged her apology, but their expressions seemed to suggest otherwise.
They exchanged meaningful smirks and approached Scarlet, forming a circle around her, making it difficult for her to escape.
One of the men got closer to her, dropping his cigarette near her face, and asked in a lewd manner, "Would you like to smoke, sexy?" His rotten teeth indicated his frequent smoking habit, further repulsing her.
