She suddenly stood up and asked, “Was there a woman following Young Master Lawrence? Plain-looking, with little makeup?”
Her manager busied packing her luggage and upon hearing the question, he recalled, “There seems to be someone like that, but I didn’t pay attention to what she looked like or if she was wearing makeup.”
“Is she about as tall as me, with very white skin?” Lillian pursued impatiently.
The manager thought carefully, remembering that indeed there was someone standing next to Young Master Lawrence who seemed to be about Lillian’s height, with a fair complexion too.
Uncertain, she said, “I think so.”
“Why are you asking about this, Lily?”
“I want to meet her.”
The manager thought she had misheard, “What did you say?”
“I said I want to meet Young Master Lawrence.”
Without a second thought, the manager outrightly rejected, “No! Stop making trouble. I’ve explained the pros and cons to you, why won’t you listen? I always thought you knew better, having worked hard to get where you are today. What’s gotten into you today?”
Lillian was originally not from the entertainment industry, but she got involved with a director and somehow charmed him into getting her a role as the Third Female Lead in one of his movies. Although her part was small, the director took special care of her, giving her a likable character, and that marked her official entry into the industry. Riding on the movie’s popularity, she signed with Elysion, took on many scripts, and because she was ‘sensible,’ the directors favored her, allowing her to get her share of the agency’s work resources. She didn’t become the Number One Female Star of Elysion, but she had no lack of roles to shoot, and her status was on the rise, now considered a Second Tier female artist.
When her manager was first assigned to her, she was pleased.
She liked artists who climbed up through their own efforts, finding them much easier to manage than the ones straight out of school, at least knowing what’s what and understanding their own worth.
