But in Linton City, the Clark Family was in turmoil. Jacob Clark couldn’t believe what he was seeing on the computer screen; his mind went blank.
“Impossible, how could this be…”
“I must have seen it wrong. It must be a mistake!”
His hands trembled as he grasped the mouse, shaking it continuously.
His eyes, bulging and bloodshot, were fixed on the computer screen as if he could stare a hole through it.
Perhaps because his hands were shaking too violently, the mouse just moved erratically and wouldn’t respond properly.
“Impossible… impossible…”
As he continued to mutter incessantly, the door to the study opened from the outside. Juliet Jordan came in holding a cup of coffee and walked towards him, “I’ve made you a cup of coffee; don’t overwork yourself.”
“Absolutely impossible…” Jacob Clark spoke as if he hadn’t heard her, still saying things like impossible.
Juliet Jordan noticed his abnormal complexion, paused, set down the coffee, and walked behind him.
When she saw the declining lines of stock prices displayed on the computer screen, her head buzzed!
How could this be?
Didn’t Jacob say just yesterday that this stock would rise? To turn things around, they had invested all their money and even borrowed hundreds of thousands from her Brother!
“Impossible… How could it become like this…” Jacob hadn’t noticed her, or rather, all his attention was on the stocks. The shock was too great; he didn’t even realize Juliet Jordan had entered.
After a moment of buzzing in her head, Juliet Jordan briefly regained her composure and clung to a thread of hope, “Jacob, this isn’t the stock you talked about, right? We didn’t buy this stock, did we?”
Jacob Clark, as though his beautiful dream was suddenly shattered, his face contorted violently as he spun around, “We did!”
He suddenly stood up, as if finding an outlet for his rage, and, unable to contain his anger, slapped Juliet Jordan across the face, “It’s all your fault! What sins did I commit in my last life to marry you! If I had known, I should have…”
Juliet Jordan was caught off guard by the slap, staggering, and instinctively covered her face. Upon hearing Jacob’s cutting words, she couldn’t maintain the demeanor expected of a lady; like a shrew, she yelled back at him, “If you knew, you would have chosen Matheo Lewis, right?!”
Juliet snatched his words, striking Jacob Clark squarely!
