Chapter 164: Fever not going down(2)
Dr. Jeong stood at the foot of Xue Mei’s bed, carefully reviewing the latest set of vital signs. A small smile of satisfaction crossed his face as he looked up at the monitors.
"Her temperature has come down to 37.8 Celsius," he announced to the team. "Still slightly elevated, but a significant improvement from earlier."
The younger nurse nodded, checking the IV lines. "Blood pressure has stabilized at 110/70, and heart rate is down to 85 BPM," she reported.
Dr. Jeong moved to Xue Mei’s side, gently placing a hand on her forehead. It was cool to the touch, a stark contrast to the burning heat from hours before. Xue Mei’s breathing had become more regular, and some color had returned to her cheeks.
"The broad-spectrum antibiotics seem to be working," Dr. Jeong observed. "Her white blood cell count is trending downward."
Just then, Dr. Liu from Obstetrics entered the room, carrying a portable ultrasound machine. "How’s our patient doing?" she asked.
"Much better," Dr. Jeong replied. "We’ve managed to bring her fever under control. Are you ready to check on the embryo?"
Dr. Liu nodded, setting up the ultrasound. As she ran the wand over Xue Mei’s lower abdomen, the room fell silent, all eyes fixed on the small screen.
After a tense moment, a rapid fluttering appeared on the monitor. Dr. Liu smiled, "There we go. Fetal heartbeat is strong and regular. It looks like the little one weathered the storm."
A collective sigh of relief echoed through the room. The older nurse patted Xue Mei’s hand gently. "You hear that, dear? You both made it through."
Dr. Jeong made some notes on Xue Mei’s chart. "We’ll continue to monitor her closely, but I think we can safely say we’ve turned a corner. Great work, everyone."
