Chapter 40: THE DESCENT
The air was thick with a heavy silence, broken only by the sound of Kaito's rapid breathing.
He stood alone, staring into the swirling abyss where Nyra had disappeared, her final words echoing in his mind.
"The Abyss is eternal."
The weight of those words pressed down on his chest, suffocating him. How could he fight something so vast, so consuming?
He had always thought that love and willpower could conquer anything, but now—standing at the edge of the Abyss—he wasn't so sure anymore.
Kaito shook his head, trying to clear his thoughts. He couldn't afford to fall into despair. Not now. Not when there was still a chance to save her.
His fingers tightened around the hilt of his blade. It had been a long journey to get here, one filled with trials and sacrifices. But he had never given up. He couldn't start now.
The Abyss might have claimed Nyra, but Kaito refused to let it claim him as well.
A sudden chill swept through the air, and Kaito's grip on his blade tightened. He wasn't alone.
From the darkness, a figure emerged—tall, imposing, with an aura of malevolence that seemed to distort the very fabric of reality around him. His eyes burned with an unnatural fire, and his every step sent ripples through the air. The Watcher.
"You've come far, Kaito," the Watcher said, his voice like the rasping of dry leaves. "But this is where your journey ends."
