Chapter 116: Not Worthy of His Love



Lorelai blinked her eyes open, but the bright morning sunlight filtering through the partially drawn curtains made her squeeze them shut again.

Gradually, as her eyes adjusted to the blinding light, she looked around and realized she was still in her bedroom.

Did I dream it all? she wondered, recalling Rhaegar’s final words before she had once again succumbed to exhaustion. Every time they made love, the intensity was too much for her to bear, leaving her nearly lifeless from both pleasure and fatigue.

Her cheeks flushed with embarrassment, but despite herself, her lips stretched into a wide smile. The lycan king had done it again—driven her to the brink of insanity with sensation. And yet, as she lay there awake, she felt alive, as though she had been reborn.

He was right... I already regret my decision. I miss him even now.

Lazily, she rolled over and slid her hand across the pillow beside her. Rhaegar’s scent lingered so strongly on the fabric that if she closed her eyes, she could almost imagine him lying there next to her.

The thought formed a vivid, dreamy picture in her mind, one that made her heart clench with a bittersweet pang of regret.

She wished she could run away with him. She truly wanted to. But no matter how many times she tried to convince herself to say yes to his proposal, her lips refused to release the words that would set her free.

I could have become the queen of the beasts... Then, I would not have to worry about my life anymore. I would not have to see the queen or her son. I would not have to endure Duke Kalder either. I would be free. Just like he promised I would be.
