Chapter 103: Two Green Monsters
"Rod, did Stark agree?" General Ross asked, eyes narrowing with tension.
"I don’t know," Colonel James Rhodes replied helplessly. "Tony hung up right after I made the request."
Strictly speaking, Ross wasn’t even Rod’s direct superior, but the Colonel still gave him face—partly out of military decorum, partly because he couldn’t stomach watching innocent people suffer in Harlem.
"General, the tanks are in position, but... are we really deploying them in Harlem?" a young officer asked hesitantly.
"I’ve already ordered artillery to open fire," Ross answered coldly. "If we don’t stop that monster now, things will only get worse. Remember, our mission is to protect the people!"
Of course, Ross conveniently left out the fact that he was the one who approved Emil Blonsky’s injection of the unstable Super Soldier serum derived from the Hulk. That detail didn’t suit the current narrative.
"Fire!" Ross ordered.
A 120mm copper-jacketed shell screamed through the air toward the Abomination—but in a horrifying display of brute strength, the creature caught it mid-air. The shell detonated in the monster’s palm, engulfing him in flames and smoke.
When the blast cleared, the Abomination stood there, completely unharmed. His twisted body was charred, but unbroken—no real damage had been done.
"Roar!" The beast let out a thunderous growl. Tank shells might as well have been firecrackers. Bronsky, now the Abomination, grinned maniacally. He had gotten what he wanted: power beyond any human.
"Keep firing!" Ross bellowed.
