Chapter 223: War at the West Gate
The western gate shook from the weight of monsters slamming into it.
Liora stood on the front line, her sword held firmly in her grip, the dark metal glinting with a faint blue light. This was the gate that faced the forest directly—the most dangerous zone in the entire base. The forest had released its worst.
Behind her, Zhou Yinuo, Shen Haoran, and Liang Zihan stood ready, their expressions tight, eyes fixed on the incoming wave of mutated beasts. There was no time for hesitation. The horde was here.
"Hold the line!" Liora called out.
The earth trembled beneath their feet as massive beasts charged forward, their roars louder than thunder. Some had thick bone plating covering their bodies. Others moved like shadows, slipping through openings and leaping for the kill.
Zhou Yinuo was the first to move. With a sharp breath, she raised her hands, and the wind obeyed. Sharp blades of air slashed through the sky, slicing down flying creatures before they could even reach the wall. Her long hair whipped wildly behind her, her eyes focused and cold. Each movement of her fingers created another wave of deadly wind.
"Don’t let them reach the gate!" she shouted.
Beside her, Shen Haoran stepped forward, hands glowing with flames. He pulled the fire from deep within, casting it outward in wide, sweeping arcs. The front line of beasts exploded into flames, their shrieks drowned out by the crackling heat. Haoran’s face was smeared with ash and sweat, but he didn’t stop.
"They just keep coming!" he growled.
Liang Zihan was breathing heavily already. His earth ability wasn’t as strong as the one-man army they had met before, but he did what he could. He raised jagged stone walls from the ground to block the path of the faster beasts. When that wasn’t enough, he slammed his foot down and sent pillars of stone crashing through the monsters’ bodies.
"I need a few seconds to recover," he muttered, sweat dripping from his brow.
