Chapter 195 : Secrets That Should Not Be Known (03)
The room was quiet, but Liora’s mind wasn’t.
She sat across from Atlas, her knees pulled slightly together as she rested her hands on her lap. Her fingers twitched unconsciously, almost like they were responding to her inner turmoil.
"I’ve thought about it again and again," Atlas said, rubbing the back of his neck and then folding his arms as he leaned back against the wall. "But nothing seems to work. No matter how I try to approach this, he’s always one step ahead."
Liora looked at him quietly. The silence between them stretched longer than it should have, but it was not uncomfortable. It was heavy.
"He’s not from this planet," Atlas finally added. His voice dropped lower, as if even the walls had ears. "Kazren is from the Spire and I am also."
Liora’s eye suddenly snapped towards him. She knew that Kazren must be from another high-tech planet, and maybe Atlas too. Because both of them have the knowledge that no people on their planet have. But she never thought that they were actually from the Spire... they are part of the most advanced civilization. That point alone was enough to make anyone’s jaw drop.
Liora’s lips parted, but no words came. She could only blink slowly.
Atlas continued, "He’s a wanted criminal. Not just wanted or blacklisted. Bounty on his name, restricted access across five systems. Do you know what that means, Liora? Even the Spire wants nothing to do with him. And yet... he’s here."
Her heart skipped a beat. How could she carelessly attract the attention of a criminal, and not just a simple criminal but a most wanted one? Liora felt like crying, but she did not even have tears... now if she thought carefully, if not for Atlas’s appearance, she would not have even known how she died today... her entire effort, struggle, and pain would be in vain, when she actually died without even surviving a year...
Tasting death once, she did not plan to taste it another time, and who knows whether that broken system would be able to revive her back or not.
Atlas looked toward the side, as if something else had caught his attention. "Come," he said simply.
