Apocalypse: Transmigrated with an Overlord System

Chapter 155: Shadow in the Dark

As dusk fell, the last ray of sunlight in the sky slowly faded away, and the night came like a tide, shrouding the earth in gloomy silence.

The lights outside the base had not yet been fully lit, and the entire wall was silent like a sleeping beast. After Liora left the management center, the entire base operated as usual. Everything seemed calm and orderly, even with a rare sense of stability and order.

However, far away, deep in the forest, another storm was brewing.

A burst of hurried and heavy footsteps broke the tranquility of the night. Intermittent sounds of branches breaking, gasping, and painful groans could be heard from the dense forest. Those sounds, mixed with mud and blood, carried a strong smell of death.

They were a group of survivors in a very miserable state.

Their clothes were already tattered, some were covered in blood, some even had a broken arm or leg. Blood kept gushing out from their broken limbs, dripping along their skin onto the mud, leaving a trail of thrilling bloodstains.

One of the middle-aged men was carrying an unconscious girl on his back, his face looking haggard and tired. His legs had already cramped, and his shoulders were shaking violently from the weight. Every step he took was almost entirely supported by his will. He clenched his teeth and dared not stop for a moment, because he knew that if he stopped, he would die.

Behind him was a group of dozens of survivors, each of them with fear and deathly silence in their eyes. Their eyes were empty, like ghosts crawling out of hell. They were on the run, but they didn’t even know if they had a chance to survive.

"Hurry... hurry up, or it’s all over..." An old man stumbled and held onto the tree trunk, but his feet were no longer under his control. His vision was blurry and he couldn’t see clearly what was ahead, so he could only move forward mechanically.

Another woman held the baby tightly in her arms. The child’s throat had become hoarse from crying and he could only whimper weakly. The woman’s face was covered in tears, but she didn’t dare to stop, or even open her mouth to comfort him, for fear that if she made any loud noise, she would be discovered by that horrible thing.

And behind them, a roar like an earthquake was approaching one after another.
