Chapter 145: Everything’s good, right Doc?
It was only a few days later that the Doctor that Sir Forsythe had found came back for a check up.
They arrived in a similar fashion, only this time Cass made sure that they didn’t arrive on a rushed Sir Forsythe’s horse. Instead, he sent out a carriage, a fully functioning carriage with Sir Forsythe as an escort and then they arrived.
Sam stood by anxiously as the Doctor took in Cass’ current condition. They had removed their hood once they had entered the room, showing off their features a bit more as they looked over Cass’ wounds and body.
"Have you had any strange symptoms?" They asked and Cass didn’t even stand a chance. Cass opened his mouth, but Sam was already there, spilling.
"There was a time when he started crying blood, and his breathing became harsh and raspy. We had to feed him the tonic. His pulse was getting faint, and-" The Doctor’s gaze grew wide.
"And no one thought to call me? When did this happen?" They demanded and Sam swallowed.
"The day after your visit." Sam told them and the Doctor slid a look towards Cass. it was clear that they thought that Cass had ordered Sam to not do anything. It wasn’t far from the truth. Cass just didn’t think it was a big deal, especially if the Doctor was going to come back and visit them again. If it had happened again, then Cass probably would have been more insistent.
"You’re the one who told them not to come get me, didn’t you?" Cass could tell that Byron, Sir Forsythe, and Sam didn’t like the way that the Doctor spoke to Cass. Cass didn’t actually mind. It was a sign that they were probably a pretty good Doctor since Cass was fairly sure that they spoke to all of their clients the same way. Or, the lower classes got better treatment. Cass liked that, so he didn’t mind the slightly disrespectful tone that they were speaking to him with.
It was only disrespectful for this time. Cass didn’t give a fuck about it, personally.
