Marin-sensei walked briskly ahead. She passed right by the usual shop with the line of girls waiting outside.The regular girls noticed me and started talking.
"Oh? You’re not stopping by today?"
"Look, he’s with a different woman!"
"Who is that woman!? She’s not worthy of him!"
"Yeah! I’m way prettier than her!"
They were saying whatever they wanted. I felt like telling them to look at their own faces in the mirror first. However, Marin-sensei acted as if she couldn’t hear any of it and kept walking until we reached a clearly high-class shop quite a distance away from the usual one.
This place definitely looked expensive. Even standing in front of the shop, the sweet aroma drifted out. My cheapskate instincts from my previous life kicked in — when you have no money, just standing in front of a place like this is enough.
"Let’s go in!"
Without waiting for my permission, Marin-sensei took the lead and entered the shop. She spoke with the gentleman at the reception desk. After their conversation, the man said, "Right this way," and guided us inside. We proceeded down a corridor past the entrance and were shown into a private room. The room was filled with luxurious furnishings that looked like they would cost a fortune just for the room fee alone. There were no windows, only a door, and the walls were decorated with paintings, dolls, and various works of art.
Since I live in the inner palace, one might think I’d be used to this kind of environment, but my room has almost no furnishings, so I’m not accustomed to it. My mother’s room has them, but mine is basically just a room for sleeping — it only has a bed, a reception set, a desk, and a chair. That’s why coming to a room like this makes me nervous.
"This room is amazing!"
I gave an honest impression, but Marin-sensei remained silent. The heavy atmosphere showed no signs of clearing. Eventually, there was a knock at the door, and a maid brought in black tea and cakes. The cups and plates were also clearly expensive. The spoons were probably made of silver.
Marin-sensei stayed completely quiet the whole time, her face looking tormented.
"Marin-sensei, what’s wrong? You’ve been silent this whole time. Come on, let’s eat quickly."
I took a bite of the cake and invited her to join me. Only then did Marin-sensei finally speak.
"Lord Robby... I am truly sorry about what happened yesterday."
