Chapter 149: Sending gifts

Yeri let the comments roll past without a word, her lashes lowered like she could shield herself from the ugliness with silence. Behind her, the heart-rate monitor beeped steadily, a faint reminder of her fragile state.

The soft rhythm was almost comforting, a tether to the quiet room that contrasted with the chaos exploding on her phone screen.

Far across the city, Shin was still buried under mountains of paperwork. His desk littered with contracts and reports that demanded his signature.

The comforting silence was his only company until his phone chimed with a series of sharp notifications. He almost ignored them, assuming it was just random updates, until the name flashing across the screen made him pause.

Yeri’s social media account.

Shin frowned, irritation clouding his expression. Why is she suddenly doing a livestream when she’s supposed to be resting?

With a reluctant sigh, he tapped the screen and froze.

Her pale face appeared on the feed, thin and washed of color, her voice soft yet steady as she spoke to her viewers.

Shin’s jaw tightened. He wanted to call her, to scold her for always making light of her health.

What she didn’t know was that he had been following her account secretly not with his official identity, of course, but through a quiet, unassuming username.

At first, he thought she had gone live to pass time. But then the comments caught his eye.

They weren’t just comments. They were knives.

Slanderous remarks, cruel words, taunts that dripped with venom.

Shin’s eyes darkened. He was quick to screenshot every username that went beyond reason, every troll who thought it was funny to spit poison at someone who was simply breathing, existing. His fingers tightened on the phone.

But screenshots weren’t enough. He wanted her to feel at present that she wasn’t alone. With a swift tap, Shin clicked to send gifts.

On Yeri’s end, the small stream of donations from her loyal fans blended into the chat, but she hardly paid attention. She wasn’t here for money. She ignored the trickle of digital roses and small icons of support, her focus staying on her words.

But then—

The screen erupted in color.

Fireworks exploded, confetti tumbled, golden sparks and ribbons of light rained down across her livestream until her pale face was barely visible behind the spectacle.

Yeri paused mid-sentence, blinking in confusion. Her gaze dropped to the notification list. Twenty flying planes streaked across her screen in succession.

The chat went berserk.

[OMG! Someone just sent her TWENTY planes simultaneously!!!]

[Do you even know what that means? One plane is 50,000! TWENTY planes equals a million! Who is this mysterious sugar god?!]

[Look at the username, "S." He just created the account! No followers, no posts, only following Yeri. Damn! A hidden big shot, completely obsessed with our goddess.]

[I’ve been streaming for YEARS and not even ONE plane! What kind of cosmic joke is this?!]

[@S, hey... I’m drop-dead gorgeous too. Want my profile? Sending it now!]

[Ugh! Beautiful people always have it easy! She barely goes live and already got a million. Life’s unfair.]

[Forget the money! YERI ZHI, TELL US WHERE YOU ARE!]

Yeri sat stunned. She hadn’t even known what the glittering planes meant until her viewers started shrieking about the conversion. Her lips parted, but no words came out at first.

A million? She didn’t want it. She wasn’t here for this.

Taking a breath, she forced a faint smile and spoke softly.

"I won’t take much of your time, as I’m still recuperating—"

But she couldn’t finish.

The screen exploded again, this time with the hulking shadows of five gleaming ships docking one after another across her livestream. Each one was bigger than the last, cutting through the screen like a tidal wave.

Yeri’s heart sank as she saw the username attached to them.

[KingNafplion: Bullying my fiancée, who dares?]

[KingNafplion: Baby, why didn’t you tell me you were sick? You just didn’t want me to worry, right? Don’t worry. I’ll take care of that witch Lucia myself. She won’t trouble you again.]

The comment section went into hysteria, but Yeri’s blood ran cold.

Her eyes narrowed, dark and sharp. She didn’t need to guess who it was. She knew exactly which scoundrel had appeared from the depths of insanity. She thought he had been locked away, sedated and silenced.

But no. It seemed he had clawed his way back to temporary sobriety and straight into her nightmare.

[Another big shot?! Fiancée? Wait, does that mean he’s Yeri’s boyfriend? I think I’ve heard that surname before!]

[Wahaha! If I were Yeri, I’d pick the other one. Just five ships? Cheapskate move, bro.]

It seemed the so-called "fiancé" cared far too much about what netizens thought of him. He pounced on the insult like a starving wolf.

[KingNafplion: What do you know, you commoner! She is my fiancée and will share in everything I have! I’m simply expressing my support to her with some gifts.]

The chat exploded with debate. Some were almost convinced he might really be close to Yeri, while others mocked him mercilessly.

The livestream had become a circus.

Then the screen lit up again, brighter and louder than before.

Twenty planes!

Twenty ships!

Twenty sports cars!

All dropped one after another overwhelming her phone screen, the comments section fell into a stunned silence then exploded.

It was ridiculous. It was excessive. It was... insane.

Shin had pushed the platform to its limits. That was the maximum the system allowed him to send at once. If he could have sent more, he would have.

The netizens were relentless, frenzied.

[S: @KingNafplion you are her fiancé? Stop coveting what you can’t even dream of. Don’t disgust my wife.]

[Drama rate: 9999! God S, I want to worship you! Can you send me gifts too?]

[I’m struggling to buy dinner tonight and this guy is over here tossing his spare change around!]

[I can’t even be mad... huhuhu. How do you say you’re the god of wealth without saying it? Answer: S.]

Yeri could only stare, speechless. The bullet comments flew faster than she could read them, and yet every single one was centered on this ridiculous "battle of giving gifts" in her livestream.

Even Levi’s jaw had dropped, while Nina, who had logged in under her own account to fight the slanderers earlier, just blinked.

"...I’m completely unnecessary here." Nina muttered under her breath, realizing the battlefield had shifted entirely on its own.

She didn’t have to wait long for someone to drag the supposed "fiancé" through the mud.

[@KingNafplion you’re a scumbag! A predator! A pervert! Just look at his account, it’s all rants and flaunting. And the people he follows? Mostly women, some even underage!]

If there was one thing netizens excelled at, it was group scolding. And when it came to tearing apart a scumbag, they moved with terrifying unity.

Leo Nafplion had always been arrogant, condescending, and loud about his wealth. He flaunted his cars, his villas, his jewelry, and his so-called "connections."

Naturally, it wasn’t hard for people to dig up dirt. His own account page was practically an invitation for public execution.

Meanwhile, Lucia Hera had been quietly lurking in the livestream. She hadn’t expected to get pulled into the storm, but her hands grew clammy as her mind whirled.

If this "KingNafplion" was truly Yeri’s boyfriend, that was dangerous. Even more so if he was just an obsessed fans, they were the most unpredictable. They didn’t blink an eye at committing crimes in the name of "love."

Her uneasy thoughts were broken by a loud voice from nearby.

"We are here at Zhi Corporation!" one of the netizens who had been following Lucia shouted, their phone raised like a weapon.

Lucia stiffened. She looked up at the towering building in front of her. The massive glass panels gleamed in the afternoon sun, the Zhi Corporation logo standing proud and domineering.

Her stomach twisted with jealousy and indignation. Born into wealth, Yeri didn’t even need to fight for respect, it was handed to her. Meanwhile, Lucia herself was nothing more than a pawn. Even the person behind her kidnapping had treated her like a disposable chess piece, something to be used and discarded once she lost value.

The livestream’s focus began shifting back to her, comments flashing faster than lightning.

Seeing this, and catching Nina’s gesture about Lucia being at her father’s company, Yeri finally spoke.

Her tone was calm, even teasing.

"As I said earlier, I’m still recuperating. To those who think I’m hiding, well, Miss Hera is currently in the wrong place. If you want to find me, I’m at Neri Medical Hospital. I’ll probably be here for a while. Just say my name once you arrive. I’m practically a regular customer here, so most of the staff recognize me."

Her lips curved faintly. "I can even let hospital security escort you inside."

For a beat, there was silence. Then chaos.

The comment section exploded again, this time with shock. Many had thought Yeri was faking, exaggerating, or playing victim. But the mention of Neri Hospital, one of the most prestigious medical institutions changed everything.

She wasn’t lying. She was genuinely hospitalized.

Questions flooded in like a tidal wave: Why is she hospitalized? What illness does she have? Was it an accident? How long will she stay?

But Yeri ignored them all. She gave Levi a small gesture to end the live.

Just then, the door burst open.

"Miss Zhi, what are you doing?" Dr. Neri’s voice was stern, his face set in a scowl. "You’re supposed to be following the doctor’s advice. Do you want to worsen your health?"

Levi nearly dropped the phone in shock, accidentally swiveling the camera toward Dr. Neri. The capture lasted less than a second, but it was enough. Viewers recognized him immediately.

And just like that, the doubters went silent.

Yeri bowed her head slightly, offering a sincere apology. After Dr. Neri left, she noticed the livestream was still running. Levi pointed at the chat window.

"Look at the comments."

Yeri scrolled through them "..."

Almost no one was talking about her health anymore or if Lucia would really come to meet her.

The comments were fixated on the two people, either taking sides or trolling.

Why were "S" and "KingNafplion" fighting in her livestream?

Her chest tightened. A strange suspicion gnawed at her. She had an inkling of who this mysterious "S" really was. Not to mention... the absurd amount of gifts he had just showered on her.

And if her guess was right...

Yeri’s mouth twitched, what to do with this person?
