Chapter 297: I Hate You
"You are joking with me, aren’t you?" Bree looked at the training ground and turned to look at Ahmar as if the man had gone crazy. He must have gone crazy because why the hell would he ask her to do something so ridiculous?
"Your majesty, I am neither joking nor do I have any intention of making things difficult for you." Ahmar shook his head and stated calmly.
Bree closed her eyes and shook her head. "Then what is the point of running around? Is it because you think that I am not fit enough?"
"This has nothing to do with your fitness level. Your majesty, you might think that this entire thing is utterly foolish but that is not the case, as a shifter, there are often times when we need to be quick on our feet, at times like these, we do not have the liberty to sit down and catch our breaths. We need to train our bodies to deal with such situations, and you are doing the same. Maybe it is because of years of your debauchery that your body has sagged. You need to rebuild your strength as a shifter, your majesty."
His explanation made sense. Bree sighed and turned to look at the training ground; it seemed like she had no other choice but to face this trouble head-on. She gritted her teeth and straightened up. With a quick roll of her head, she started to stretch her limbs.
"Are you going to dilly dally for the entire day, your majesty?" Ahmar could not help but ask when he saw Bree standing on the starting point for way too long. He was also quite amused when he saw how troubled the woman looked. Who would have thought that the queen who could be decisive enough to kill people with one swift move was terrified of running three laps around the training ground?
Bree snapped her head at him and said, "I was just preparing." Though she said that, she still felt dreadful. Ever since she came to this world, she had never run so much. At least not without using Serafina’s strength. But right now her dragon’s strength was way out of control and she could not use it. She could only rely on herself. With that thought in her mind, even though she was feeling a bit of trepidation, she still shot past the starting line.
However, she had only run a couple of metres when Ahmar shouted from behind, "Is that all you have got your majesty? If you run like that, then you will be the first to be eaten by your enemies."
Bree gritted her teeth upon hearing his remark. She put some more strength into her legs and started to run even faster but—
"Don’t run like a little wimp! Even a little girl can outrun you at this pace."
This damned vampire!
Bree was furious.
It was one thing that this man had asked her to run around the training ground like one of his soldiers but he was even calling her names. What did he mean by that she ran like a little wimp? Who was the wimp here? Just because she had lost control of her powers, they were bullying her too much.
She increased her pace but no matter how much she tried, Ahmar had something to say about it.
**
"I am...going...to kill you," panted Bree as she glared at the man. By the time she was done with her laps, Bree was panting like crazy and nursing a cramp in her side. She was lying on her back as if her entire body had been tormented in more than just one inhumane way. It was truly embarrassing because Ahmar had ran alongside her and yet he had not even broken a sweat.
However, Ahmar did not seem to mind. "It seems you have better stamina than I thought; you were actually able to stay conscious. Many of the shifters usually pass out after the second lap."
"Are you trying to make me hate you?" Bree asked while being out of breath.
"I am trying to make you feel better." Ahmar shook his head and explained in a calm voice. He then said to her, "Anyway, as long as you continue working hard, your body will be as strong as a golem."
"I don’t know anything about being as strong as a golem but what I do know is that my limbs are as heavy as stones."
"Stop whining. You might not understand this but as long as your heartbeat is accelerated, your healing will be faster; you will feel better in just a few minutes, your majesty."
"In that case, I need an hour to rest. I am not moving before then."
"Will your beast give you time if you ask her to calm down and let you rest? No, since that is the case, I can’t do it either. Now get on with the other thing. Every shifter knows how to focus on stealth. It is a rather important skill, as one needs to hide oneself in the shadows when it is dangerous and it also helps in strengthening your self-control. So I will be teaching you that as well. At a later point I will test you by bringing my soldiers."
"Why?"
"Because I need you to show your strength in front of them; they are your subjects your majesty and the rumours outside are gaining momentum as we speak. We need to showcase your skills to them. That you are still under control and that you can rule them with or without your beast’s strength. Shifters respect those who are in power; as for those who cannot control themselves, they declare them rogue. As long as you don’t show your strength in front of them, they will never be able to trust you."
"But if you defeat them, then they will have to accept that you are good. After all, they are experts who knows what it means to be in control."
