Chapter 335: Seizing the Opportunity
Yun Shifei no longer cared what Cheng Lie thought of her; it wasn’t wrong for him to see her as a vain woman.
After all, there wouldn’t be any future outcome between them.
Thinking about it, Yun Shifei actually felt a bit regretful.
What kind of woman would accompany him in the future?
Yun Shifei recalled her previous life when she saw a picture of Cheng Lie with Wen Lin in the newspaper, a perfect match of talent and beauty.
Maybe they were the ones truly meant for each other.
A couple of days later, the weather was nice, and Xu Yuejiao invited Yun Shifei out for a meal.
The two sisters hadn’t gathered in some time. Xu Yuejiao glanced at Yun Shifei and frowned: "Feifei, have you not been eating well lately? Why have you lost weight?"
Yun Shifei was surprised. She had been eating properly these days, just no longer indulging in desserts or sweets.
Because every time she ate those things, she would think of Cheng Lie and the times they shared eating cake together, which made her increasingly unhappy. So she’d simply stop eating them.
Unexpectedly, eating fewer sweets actually made her thinner, so her weight loss goal somehow achieved itself.
Seeing Yun Shifei remain silent, Xu Yuejiao felt a pang of heartache and sighed: "Why don’t you and Cheng Lie just reconcile already?"
Xu Yuejiao had learned about Yun Shifei’s breakup not long after it happened. She couldn’t understand why, given how much they clearly liked each other, they would break up. Yun Shifei told her she didn’t love him anymore, but Xu Yuejiao didn’t believe it for a second.
She had seen firsthand how much Yun Shifei liked him, from the time when he had autism and still she cared for him deeply. Now, Cheng Lie had grown outstanding, seemingly shining like a beacon, standing at the peak of life.
Yun Shifei didn’t love him anymore? How could that be possible?
At this moment, Yun Shifei didn’t want to continue the topic. She changed it: "Sister Jiaojiao, let’s not talk about this anymore. How about you? Any progress in your love life lately?"
Last time, Xu Yuejiao told her about a senior a grade above her whom she had a crush on—handsome, considerate, and kind to her. Yun Shifei wondered if Xu Yuejiao had gotten together with him.
As the senior was brought up, Xu Yuejiao’s expression became somewhat unnatural. She nodded: "Of course, when your sister takes action, there’s always a chance."
Speaking of this, Xu Yuejiao looked at her outfit and said to Yun Shifei: "Feifei, I think I want to change my style."
Her hair had grown longer now, no longer the tomboyish style she used to sport.
However, her clothing remained tomboyish. With the weather gradually heating up, she was now wearing a dark blue denim jacket over a plaid shirt, matched with black wide-leg pants—looking quite sharp.
Still, she felt she could try a more feminine style now.
Hearing Xu Yuejiao wanting to change, Yun Shifei couldn’t help but smile: "Sure! Let’s go buy clothes, lots of pretty clothes."
"Dressing like Feifei is good enough. But I feel Feifei is just fortunate to be so pretty—anything looks good on her." Xu Yuejiao ruffled Yun Shifei’s hair. "Let’s go, let’s shop."
So, Yun Shifei accompanied Xu Yuejiao shopping, helping her pick out a few outfits that she thought suited her.
Xu Yuejiao, standing tall at nearly 1.7 meters and quite slim, also had a bold and confident personality, making her particularly suited to an elegant and commanding style.
Yun Shifei suggested she try simple and sleek pairings with a focus on Morandi tones—high-level color schemes that look good no matter how they’re matched.
Xu Yuejiao herself wasn’t sure what suited her best, so she let Yun Shifei pick for her.
After dressing up, Yun Shifei looked her up and down: "Sister Jiaojiao, this looks wonderful on you."
Xu Yuejiao gazed at herself in the mirror, a bit unsure, and asked Yun Shifei: "Does this really look good?"
Yun Shifei smiled and nodded.
She realized Xu Yuejiao was indeed very suitable for this style. With her height and her good aura, a milk-tea-colored wool sweater paired with a mist-blue long skirt looked refined and stunning.
Additionally, her facial features leaned towards a cool elegance. This outfit suddenly gave her an air of commanding presence.
Yun Shifei pulled out an almond-colored handbag to go with Xu Yuejiao’s ensemble.
Even the shop assistant couldn’t help but praise her: "This young lady has such a keen eye, this pairing is simply too pretty!"
"Then let’s buy it." Xu Yuejiao grinned happily and asked the shopkeeper to package everything up.
She dragged Yun Shifei around for another round of shopping, picking up more clothes.
Yun Shifei felt that Xu Yuejiao must truly be moved by that man. A woman dressing up for someone she admires—she hoped that man would appreciate it, so she tried to look her best.
Thinking about this, Yun Shifei suddenly remembered the clothes in her own wardrobe. Whenever she saw Cheng Lie in the past, she would also make an effort to dress up.
But now, she only wore the most comfortable clothes, rotating the same handful of outfits.
Having finished her shopping, Xu Yuejiao patted Yun Shifei’s shoulder: "Feifei, your sense of aesthetics is really good. Since you’re also good at drawing, you should consider becoming a designer someday."
Yun Shifei shook her head: "My amateur skills aren’t up to anything like that."
She recalled Cheng Lie, who was so skilled at drawing, seeming to excel at everything without formal teaching.
Thinking of him, she couldn’t help but sigh. Why had she thought of him again?
She wanted to control herself, to stop thinking of Cheng Lie, but the memories and longing seeped through every crack, making escape impossible.
From their recent meeting, where he rescued her from Qin Yumo’s grasp, to the lie she spun to hurt him in return.
Yun Shifei felt deeply guilty and hoped he wouldn’t take it to heart.
She made up her mind that if she couldn’t truly let him go, then she would work hard now. Someday, they would stand together again, wouldn’t they? By then, what did Mu Chengzhu matter?
Oh, and Mu Chengzhu—she’d repay him for his debts someday soon.
As Xu Yuejiao and Yun Shifei wrapped up their shopping and prepared to return to campus, Xu Yuejiao stopped in front of a certain store.
Yun Shifei was puzzled. They stood outside a watch shop.
It was a high-end watch store, elegantly designed, with watches in the display windows gleaming under the lights.
"Shifei, do you think he’d like it if I gave him a watch?"
Yun Shifei glanced at the price and then replied: "It’s too expensive."
"Well, he’s a guy, isn’t he? Having a nice watch is no big deal."
Xu Yuejiao called the shop assistant over to take a look at one of the watches.
In the end, Xu Yuejiao decided to buy it.
"Sister Jiaojiao, you really like him, don’t you?"
Xu Yuejiao nodded: "You don’t understand. Before, whenever I liked a guy, it never lasted more than a month. But this person—I’ve liked him for six months. I just know it: I truly like him."
Yun Shifei saw the light in Xu Yuejiao’s eyes and thought her feelings must be similar to how she once felt about Cheng Lie.
A kind of joyfulness that softened the heart, the kind of affection that made one want to offer the best things in the world to the person they cared about.
Yun Shifei couldn’t help but hold Xu Yuejiao’s hand: "Sister Jiaojiao, you must cherish this opportunity then."
Xu Yuejiao nodded and decided she would present the gift the next time she invited the senior out for a meal.
