Chapter 242: It Seemed There Was Something Else
The evening air, usually a welcome respite after a long day at work, crackled with an unsettling energy. Lyse, weary from a demanding design session, pulled her car into the familiar parking spot outside her apartment building. As she stepped out, a blinding flash of light momentarily disoriented her. Then, a cacophony of voices erupted, a chaotic barrage of questions and shouts.
"Lyse! Over here!"
"Is it true you’re having an affair with Ken Stuart?"
"What is your relationship with the celebrity philanthropist?"
Lyse’s heart pounded in her chest. She was surrounded by a swarm of paparazzi, their cameras flashing, their microphones thrust towards her. She was bewildered, confused, and slightly panicked. She was sick of always being in the spotlight. It seemed like every other day she had to deal with something like this before.
"What’s going on?" she stammered, her voice barely audible above the din. She tried to push her way through the crowd, but they were relentless, their questions growing more insistent, more invasive.
Suddenly, a sleek, black Bentley pulled up to the curb, its tinted windows offering a momentary shield from the chaos. The rear door opened, and Bella stepped out, her expression a mixture of concern and determination. She moved swiftly with a bodyguard by her side, her presence a calming force amidst the frenzy.
"Lyse, get in," she said, her voice firm and clear. She grabbed Lyse’s arm and pulled her towards the car, while the bodyguard shielded them both from the flashing cameras and intrusive questions.
Lyse, still reeling from the sudden onslaught, gratefully accepted Bella’s assistance. She slid into the plush leather seat, the door closing behind her, shutting out the chaos of the outside world.
