Chapter 89: Arrested By The Police In His Own Home
The peaceful morning at the Chadwick home was shattered by the sudden, unwelcome intrusion. Brooke ran down, just in time to see a squad of uniformed officers, their faces etched with grim determination, storm in through the front door.
Lottie who had been by the pool but got startled by the commotion, came into the house, tying the belt of her robe securely around her waist. Both women watched in disbelief as the officers moved swiftly, their eyes fixed on one target: Jeff Chadwick.
"What is going on here?" Lottie demanded, her voice trembling. "Who are you, and what do you want in my house?"
The lead officer, a stern-faced man with a badge pinned to his chest, ignored her question. "Mr. Chadwick, you are under arrest and we demand that you come with us immediately," he announced, his voice cutting through the air.
Jeff, his face pale and his eyes wide with shock, was unceremoniously handcuffed and led away. Lottie and Brooke were left stunned, their minds reeling. They had never seen Jeff in such a vulnerable state, arrested by the police, in his own home?
"What is happening?" Brooke asked, her voice barely a whisper.
Lottie, her anger rising, turned to the officers. "You have to tell me why you are arresting my husband," she demanded.
The officer hesitated, then replied, "Ma’am, I am afraid I can’t discuss the details to you. You are going to have to speak to his lawyer and then find out the charges against him."
Lottie was furious. She could not believe what was happening. Her husband was a respected businessman, a pillar of the community, was being arrested like a common criminal. She was determined to get to the bottom of this.
