Chapter 44: Sleepwalker
Her eyes fluttered open, and when she met the soundly sleeping face of Levi, his face mere inches from hers. She gasped while a blush crept up her cheeks as she tried to untangle herself from his embrace. "Levi," she whispered, her voice barely audible.
Panic surged through her as instead of waking up, Levi pulled her even closer to him and she tried harder to disentangle herself.
"Levi!" she exclaimed, this time her voice was sharper.
Levi, startled by her sudden movement and voice, tumbled off the bed, landing with a thud on the floor. He groaned, rubbing his head. "What the hell?" he muttered, his eyes still heavy with sleep.
Just then, the door creaked open. Mrs. Van Doren, Levi’s mother, peered into the room. "Is everything alright?" she asked, her voice filled with concern as she looked from her son who was on the ground to Lyse who was looking like a deer caught in headlights.
Lyse and Levi exchanged a bewildered glance. "Yes, Mother, everything is fine," Levi assured her. "Just a little startle."
Mrs. Van Doren nodded, a look of relief crossing her face. "Alright, then. Just be careful. Would you like to have breakfast with me in the garden then?"
"Yes mother, we will join you soon."
Lovely With that, she closed the door and beamed as she stood outside.
