The Throne Is Mine

Chapter 259

"She spoke of one of her priests finding something evil amongst the young ladies. They will check and then point out which one had this evilness around them. Picking my bride is on hold now thanks to the temple," Fraser sat back, watching the two get ready to go at it. He was concerned for Cedric’s state, but having him fight with Margaret was more important.

Cedric turned to Margaret who wore a smile, challenging him to question her decision. Her being involved with the temple was causing trouble and it had not been that long yet. He was never one to like how much influence the priests had and even more now that Margaret was controlling the temple. "Those young women came from nobles and-"

"That is where you find most evil. Just because they are the daughters of your friends, does not mean you should want the court to ignore that there is something wrong. I see something evil hovering around you now," Margaret honestly spoke. "You should come to the temple to let us try removing it. The sooner the better."

Cedric, on the other hand, found it to be a joke. "The only thing evil around me, is you lady Margaret. Would you be so kind as to leave the castle so this evil will no longer affect me?"

Margaret chuckled. "I am a Blackwell. An Adams like yourself should make your way out of the castle. You are of no use to the king. I hear his mother will become his right hand."

Cedric looked at Fraser who gulped. That position belonged to him. Cedric was not going out of his way to help this fool of a king just to have no title in the castle. "How could your mother possibly be your right hand? A woman has no idea how the court works-"

"I have been paying attention and doing just fine, Cedric. Given your current state, you are in no position to want such an important job. I shall aid Fraser as his right hand," Beth defended herself. She looked at Fraser, wanting him to defend her.

Fraser didn’t see why this conversation suddenly involved him. He cleared his throat before speaking, "I see my mother as the best fit to aid me in my decisions. Grandfather, there is still room for you elsewhere in the court-"

"A woman cannot get involved in matters of the kingdom. It has never been done and it should not start now. I will not allow it!" Cedric argued. Women had their place, but it certainly was not in the court. It was to serve their husbands and make heirs. Not even the queen was involved in important conversations about her own kingdom.

Annabelle bit her lip, trying not to laugh at the sight before her. The trio was already starting to crumble, and it wouldn’t be long before they tried to kill each other. She made the right choice to stay on Margaret’s side instead of going against her. If only her child were still alive. When Fraser died she would’ve become the mother of the next king.

"You will not allow it? Ha!" Fraser scoffed. "My word is final, and my mother’s position will not change. I suggest you get over it and sit down. You look as though you could faint any second."
