Chapter 1440: Blessing Ceremony
From the moment Justin Kingston walked through the door, Ian Shelby seemed to know what he was going to say.
Sitting on the sofa, Ian pressed his hands together lightly against his lips. After the extreme pain, and after fainting from sorrow, he had thought a lot.
Yet the intense stabbing pain in his chest had not diminished at all. His heart had fallen into an abyss and needed time to heal.
So when Justin began to speak, Ian appeared surprisingly calm.
Justin reported to everyone, "The first phase of the salvage team is complete, and Jocelyn Morgan’s body has not been found, which indicates two possibilities."
Two? Everyone held their breath and looked up at him.
Justin analyzed, "First, the chances of retrieving her from the river in the future are very low, almost zero, because this is a very professional and advanced salvage team. Second, she was rescued by someone."
Silence... Everyone’s heart was in turmoil.
If she had been rescued, why hadn’t she contacted them?
Was that person good or bad? Could it be an older bachelor unable to find a wife?
This was the faint glimmer of hope in everyone’s hearts, yet they remained worried.
As the saying goes, living, one must see the person; dead, one must see the body. Without even seeing the body, how could one prove a person is dead?
But this second possibility seemed equally tenuous.
Mia Lane focused her gaze on Ian Shelby. Everyone was saddened, but only Ian felt the deepest guilt, so he must have been suffering the most.
"I hope the salvage efforts can continue." Ian raised his eyes to look at Justin, "Regardless of how, there has to be an outcome."
Justin nodded and shared his plan with him.
And then he said, "There’s no point in all of us staying here. The people I brought will continue the salvage and will conduct interviews for fifteen days. Any news will be communicated to you and Finn Morgan immediately; I have your numbers."
The room fell silent... This was the only plan for now.
No one here was a child. Adults had their own ways of handling matters.
Endless despair, crying, or clinging to the spot would be meaningless, especially when Justin had arranged everything meticulously.
At this time, Mia Lane spoke up, "Then let’s take the helicopter together and pack our things."
Ian looked up, his voice hoarse, "In the ancient town, there is a temple. Before leaving, I would like to pray for Jocelyn."
Everyone looked at one another, finding his idea agreeable, and thus unanimously agreed.
"Okay."
"I think it’s a good idea too."
"When shall we go?"
"Let’s go now."
"..."
So, before leaving the ancient town, they climbed 108 stone steps, hiking up to the mountaintop, arriving in front of an ancient temple.
They explained their intentions to the abbot and earnestly and sincerely prayed for Jocelyn Morgan.
Except for Trevor and Janelle Mills, the rest left by helicopter, as Trevor’s car was parked right outside the town.
He still had to drive back to Riventhal.
In the Maybach on the way back to the city, Janelle Mills sat in the front passenger seat, feeling vastly different from how she did when they first came to the town.
The car’s heater was on, with a window slightly open for air circulation, preventing the atmosphere from becoming too stifling.
In truth, it wasn’t the air that was oppressive, but their moods.
The air was thick with sadness, and no one spoke to break the silence.
Driving, Trevor maintained a steady pace, and roughly ten minutes later, they completely exited the ancient town, pulling the car over to the side.
They both unfastened their seatbelts and got out of the car together.
Facing the direction of the ancient town, they bowed deeply, still waiting for a miracle to happen.
