Chapter 271 - 270: A Forced Melon is Not Sweet
Qin Liuxi suddenly said such a sentence, which caught everyone in the hall off guard.
Old Mrs. Qin’s eyes sparkled with sharpness as she asked, "Miss Xi, what do you mean by that?"
"She said that Miss Wen was seriously ill, and she was not wrong," Qin Liuxi replied indifferently. "Since the girl’s family is breaking off the engagement, Auntie, let’s take that token back and return it."
Mrs. Xie’s eyes darted around, hesitatingly she said, "What token? Our Qin Family was ransacked, that thing, surely it stayed in our home in the capital, how could it be brought out?"
The round-faced servant was initially puzzled by Qin Liuxi’s words but, upon hearing Mrs. Xie say this, couldn’t help but frown.
"What token did the Qin Family give?" Qin Liuxi asked.
The round-faced servant pulled out a square box from her sleeve and opened it, inside was a pair of concentric sheep fat white jade pendants.
Qin Liuxi stepped forward to take it, saying, "Grandmother, if there is no token to return, then please write a letter by hand to serve as proof. After all, the two families only agreed verbally and exchanged tokens, the marriage contract wasn’t exchanged; your hand-written letter will suffice as evidence."
Old Mrs. Qin frowned.
"A daughter-in-law who is not dedicated is meaningless to marry into the family," Qin Liuxi looked at her and said, "A melon forced off its vine is not sweet."
