Qin Liuxi was in a very bad mood, and this foul mood persisted until she returned to the city and home.
"Miss, you’re finally back." Qi Huang stepped forward to serve her. Seeing the ugly expression on her face, she cautiously asked, "What happened?"
"Just a bit annoyed." Qin Liuxi entered the cleansing room, scooped up a handful of cold water, and washed her face.
Qi Huang exclaimed in shock, "That water’s been freezing all day, it’s very chilly. If you need to wash up, I’ll go wring some hot water for you."
Qin Liuxi drenched her face with cold water, which gradually calmed her mind, and she lifted her wet face and said, "It’s nothing."
She took a towel hanging from the rack nearby to dry her face and said, "Fetch me a set of clothing. I’ll go pay my respects, and you can ask Aunt Li to prepare a bowl of clear soup noodles for me."
"At this hour, it’s already late. Why not eat something before you go?" Qi Huang glanced at the water clock, which was approaching the end of the chen period.
Qin Liuxi undid the hairpin in her hair, saying, "Any later and it will be noon."
Qi Huang saw the dark shadows under her eyelids and noticed that her mood was not cheerful. She didn’t know what had happened last night; perhaps she hadn’t slept all night. Now she had to keep up with filial duties and morning and evening rituals, which made Qi Huang feel a touch of pity.
While helping her change clothes, Qi Huang said, "It’s not necessary to go every day. Why put yourself through this hardship?"
"I haven’t been there the past two days. Although Lady Wang might not mind, Old Mrs. Qin will have her own thoughts. Later, Lady Wang would have to smooth things over for me, which again binds causes and effects." Qin Liuxi said indifferently, "Why should I make her endure criticism on my behalf?"
