“Elena, I’m so glad you made it back safe and sound, and I want to thank Mrs. Layton and the rest of the adventurers for their hard work. Look up.”
“Thank you, Your Majesty.”
His Majesty the King of Cleydale said calmly but with dignity, to which Elena responded with an interesting smile, and we were allowed to look up as well.
His Majesty was a handsome man who looked like he was in his thirties, with blonde hair and a face resembling Elena’s. Next to him was a lovely, gentle looking woman, who was probably the First Queen.
According to Elena, she was fair and kind to everyone, but that was not all. Since His Majesty made her the Queen, there have been problems on many fronts, both in domestic affairs and diplomacy.
Elena’s real mother, Her Royal Highness the Second Queen, was doing the Queen’s work on her behalf, which she was unable to do except for official events, but there was no other woman in sight.
I did not know if the Second Queen had little interest in meeting her own daughter or not, but if she had not changed her mind, there was a possibility that she would go berserk if she knew that Elena was on the move to become Queen.
Elena looked a little troubled by that–
[At that time, I suppose I will have to take away all of your mother’s power and do her job instead as well… How troublsome.]
–she said the words so disappointedly.
Elena still seemed to have some emotion left about her, but I sensed that she was nevertheless willing to cut it off. I guess Elena would handle that one by herself rather than me.
