Chapter 815 - 815: Dangers of small, organized group
Amidst the celebration, Xiao Yue stayed calm, observing the reactions of the higher leadership of the militia organization.
They were veterans, yet they had never taken a risk like tonight. So, it was understandable that they were proud of the achievement, even if it had been accomplished with foreign assistance.
Completely annihilating a major faction within the ISIS leadership and fracturing its cooperation with the government was a huge success.
As much as tonight's operation seemed to have decapitated a majority of the leadership, Xiao Yue knew it wasn't over.
In fact, it was a stroke of great luck for her group that so many senior leaders of the terrorist organization had gathered in one location to discuss a deal.
Such a rare opportunity would not present itself twice. This was why Athena, upon receiving the intelligence through sources Xiao Yue knew nothing about, immediately advised a direct assault operation.
As a former warlord, Xiao Yue understood the persistent threat posed by small organizations that combined centralized command and strategy with decentralized action.
One could clear cell after cell without end because the organization maintained strict compartmentalization. Perhaps many members barely even knew each other.
However, the threat was far from formidable compared to those of the modern era she now lived in. Unlike Ling Qingyu and Tang Ziyi, Xiao Yue saw deeper implications beneath the surface of a simple organizational structure.
As a warlord, she preferred studying organizations related to military affairs, from terrorist groups like ISIS and Al-Qaeda to infamous insurgencies such as the IRA and various drug cartels.
Even newer resistance movements, such as the PDF insurgency in the neighboring country, were subjects she studied carefully.
The most dangerous aspect of this style of counter-insurgency warfare was that such organizations would never disappear due to external threats alone. Only internal infighting could truly make them collapse.
Nonetheless, these organizations were aware of their weaknesses and addressed them through recruitment and indoctrination, ensuring loyalty to the core ideology remained intact.
As cold-hearted and merciless as it might sound, Xiao Yue would not mind committing crimes against humanity to safeguard her rule if reconciliation proved impossible and every other option had been exhausted, should such resistance appear in her world.
Provided, of course, that they were not her own people or those close to her rule. Because if she ever resorted to violence against her own population, then she had already failed as a ruler.
Naturally, she also learned the fundamental means of resistance against such destructive system— thoroughly cleansing dangerous ideology and not allowing it to grow at all, once they were against her core value.
If modern people could hear her inner thoughts, she would probably be labeled a racist or another extremist, Xiao Yue thought with an amused smile.
However, she gave credit to the militia leadership for their willingness to learn and maintain checks and balances among themselves in a constructive manner. Perhaps it was because they were still the founding generation.
Whether their successors would uphold the same principles in the future remained questionable.
Regardless, Xiao Yue accompanied the leaders to welcome tonight's protagonists once they heard the helicopters approaching, as well as the notification from their subordinates.
She saw Tang Ziyi and Ahmin step out of the aircraft and walk in her direction. Ahmin was immediately hugged and scolded, enjoying joy and sadness at the same time.
She chuckled at the sight of a great leader being scolded by her subordinates. Only after the latter promised never to risk her life again was she finally let go.
The militia commandos and Spirit Fox operators enjoyed the small welcoming ceremony, even though the war had yet to cool down at the frontline.
The captured general was escorted away by the militia to somewhere they could interrogate him.
Then, the helicopters lifted off the ground and flew into the distance. The militia commandos who had participated in the operation waved their hands.
They understood that without the "pilots," the mission would not have gone so smoothly. Meanwhile, Ahmin bitterly complained to Tang Ziyi about why the pilots had to leave so quickly.
She thought she would have the opportunity to connect with them further and broaden her network. All her plans had gone down the drain.
Tang Ziyi and Xiao Yue exchanged smiles as they received glares from the resentful woman. They were not stupid enough to expose their "pilots."
"There, there, Commander Ahmin. We need to keep our pilots secret and make sure we don't expose them to the world media," Tang Ziyi said. "Just make sure your girls don't disclose those machines."
Ahmin sighed.
"Even if I vouch for their loyalty, who can say for sure there won't be a leak?"
"It doesn't need to be perfect. Just give your subordinates a heads-up so we can buy some time and keep the whole thing ambiguous," Xiao Yue said. "As long as we muddy the water and don't admit it's our doing, even if our opponents suspect us, it's a victory."
Ahmin nodded and agreed to implement the plan, though she remained puzzled about how GSS intended to hide from the world's intelligence services. She estimated the likelihood of success to be extremely low.
Then, the militia leadership's attention was drawn to the commandos' tale of encountering the weird and unkillable beast.
The girls described it vividly and exaggerated the already outrageous facts. Even Spirit Fox operators had their lips twitching—weren't these girls mostly behind the scenes when it all happened while the Spirit Fox sisters took the forefront?
Heck, if they hadn't directly fought against the juggernaut themselves, they would have believed the story too. Just look at their fellow sisters shooting them surprised and questioning glances.
Nevertheless, the militia commandos' involvement in the battle remained unquestionable. So, the Spirit Fox veterans allowed them to flaunt their achievements.
At least they understood the urge to vent after enduring several frightening moments.
Not to mention, it didn't hurt anyone, and it was rather amusing to watch fellow militia members expose their comrades' exaggerations.
Everyone genuinely had a laugh.
When asked whether the monster truly existed, the Spirit Fox operators nodded, confirming the militia commandos' story.
After a short celebration, Tang Ziyi took Xiao Yue to a private area. She scanned for any detectable bugs and manually searched the surroundings.
Xiao Yue instantly recognized that Tang Ziyi had something important to disclose and cooperated by discussing leisurely topics.
The tacit understanding between the two needed no further refinement.
Only after Tang Ziyi gave a clear signal did Xiao Yue stop and wait for her to speak.
Tang Ziyi explained everything that had happened with the juggernaut and described her findings.
She even recounted her communication with the mysterious entity and tested Xiao Yue with the orb.
The latter did not disappoint her and proved that she could see it.
At the very least, Tang Ziyi confirmed that the entity had not lied about the reason Xiao Yue was able to perceive it.
She also relayed the instructions left by the entity to deliver the orb to Ling Qingyu. Xiao Yue thought for a moment and decided that Tang Ziyi was better suited to transfer the items in person.
At the same time, inwardly, Xiao Yue was relieved that they had eliminated the future threats. She knew for a fact that a terrorist organization with global ambitions would clash with their group sooner or later.
