Empire Ascension: The Rise of the Fated One

Chapter 150: Siege of Amer Fort Prt-3 (Glory of charge?)

Kingdom of Amber, Fort of Jaipur, few days back on 12th march 1557.

Havildar Tanuj from Marwar faction was given one mission before the start of the battle. Just like many other havildar ranks, he was assigned to handle his 10-man unit of militia to put the raft of pallisade logs to fill the gap of the moat or die trying.

Throughout the march, he passed through unimaginable dangers. He watched as his comrades were torn to shreds by cannon shots. The air grew heavy with the scent of gunpowder and the cries of people, but he pressed on, knowing well there was no going back.

To make matters worse, the hail of giant stones unfurled upon them. It exploded upon impact, and its debris caused massive damage. One such giant stone arched in his direction, and Tanuj narrowly escaped death when this massive boulder crushed the group beside him.

With each projectile, he anticipated an incoming attack, but fate had his role certain, and he made it through the carnage to become the leading group marching towards the walls.

As Tanuj’s unit approached the moat, he rallied his men, "Stay strong! Our king will honor our sacrifice. Push forward!" He knew his promise would be in vain if task is not completed.

Suddenly, an influx of allies appeared from the other side. His subordinate, inquired in panic, "Havildar, why are our allies rushing in?"

Tanuj, dodging another arrow, responded, "No time to question! Keep moving!"

Arrows rained down like rain shower. many got repelled but few got passed and eventually pierced his comrades There was no time to mourn nor to regret but by filling the gaps they pressed forward. With only six men left within the group they charged ahead with hope. The moat was away for only few meters.

"Get ready to push the raft!" he ordered.

As they prepared to push, another group charged forward, only to be met with a splash of boiling water. The group broke formation, screaming in agony as arrows impaled them from all sides.

"Hold!" Tanuj commanded his men as he waited for the right moment. The intensity of the barrage increased, but the influx of allies reduced their concentration.
