Chapter 138: Full blown out Naval Battle Part -1
(Persian’s pov from their ships)
As dark clouds gathered over the ocean, the atmosphere grew increasingly tense. The night crackled with lightning as tiny droplets from the sky fell onto the tumultuous sea. The once-quiet tides roared, but the ships remained steadfast, braving the storm’s fury.
The Safavid fleet, following its designated route, drew closer to the recent skirmish, witnessing the grim spectacle unfold before their eyes.
Wreckage and corpses floated in the water, and the air was thick with the acrid smell of burning wood and gunpowder. Yet, none of this diverted attention from the imminent confrontation as the larger ships prepared for the next phase of battle.
The first to react was the smaller Portuguese carrack. As the Omani fleet emerged on the horizon, the carrack executed a swift maneuver. The ringing of bells echoed as it churned the ocean, setting a safe distance from the larger carrack. For a moment, it seemed as though it was abandoning its companion in its time of need, but soon the anchors were dropped, and it altered its course.
The larger carrack also adjusted its position, presenting its broadsides to the enemy. Instead of a frontal assault, they now aimed their array of heavy cannons from the sides. They formed a battle line, aligning their hulls to cover each other’s blind spots and present a unified front against the enemy.
With a thunderous roar, the larger carrack unleashed its firepower, cannons belching forth a hailstorm of cannonballs.
’Boom!’ ’Boom!’ ’Boom!’
The sharp, metallic shriek of cannonballs slicing through the air was followed by deafening crashes as they struck the sea.
’Splash!’
