These creatures relentlessly sought intelligent life in the material world to consume them, stripping away their very sense of existence, all to experience a fleeting moment of "being."
Like ghosts in the mortal world, the dead could not interact with the physical realm, nor could the living perceive them. The two domains had no connection. But if one day, ghosts discovered that possessing a human would let them feel alive again, they would seize the opportunity, no matter the cost, even if it meant the host's death.
Abyssal Beasts operated on the same principle. What they sought wasn't a physical body, but rather the essence of existence that belonged to intelligent life in the material world. This concept was far more abstract and difficult to defend against.
