Chapter 352: More Help From the Bird
As the dawn rose above the mountains, Jonas looked at Elin sleeping peacefully next to him. He'd been surprised at how late she'd stayed up on her watch. When she'd woken him up, it was clear that it had been nighttime for a long while. That the sky had been filled with stars for at least a couple hours, if not more.
While he had appreciated being able to sleep so much, he couldn't help but worry about how it would affect Elin. Especially since he doubted she'd get much sleep once the sunlight got in her eyes. Which he figured would be anytime now.
The night had been quiet and uneventful, which Jonas hoped would continue on through the day. He wasn't sure what might happen that could be a problem, but it wasn't like he even knew what was going on in the first place with Elin's memory.
He hoped that he'd be able to figure out what was going on, but if not, he hoped to at least be able to get Elin somewhere safe. Somewhere whoever was behind this wouldn't be able to get to her.
However, he was willing to wait until Elin woke up on her own first. He was confident that she would need more rest than he would, though he couldn't be sure if it would really do them any good directly. Not when he wasn't sure about all the variables going on around them.
Such as why he couldn't see the areas of the mountains that weren't solid rock. That had vegetation and trees growing on them.
He wasn't sure if it was his imagination or merely an illusion, but it still unsettled him. As it made it feel like they might have wound up in a kind of pocket dimension or something that would make things much more difficult for them to get back to the others.
Jonas wasn't sure if it was something set up as a trap or if it was as a safety measure. Though, if it was a safety measure, he couldn't help but wonder why it would merely prevent them from leaving as opposed to finding their way here to begin with.
As the sun rose higher, its rays hitting Elin full in the face, Jonas started to think about what to eat for breakfast. He only had more bear meat, though he couldn't help but wonder if they might need to conserve that if this did turn out to be a kind of trap that made it harder for them to leave.
