The Systems Challenge

Chapter 181: Self-Conscious

Kim would have liked to work on training a few of her skills, but she had a feeling that they should take a day to just take it easy. No matter how well rested they might feel at any point, not doing much that day felt like it would be the better option.

Although, while Elin's dress looked like it wasn't a color she liked, Elin looked happy to have that back, although Kim still found it amusing how she looked when she made her mad dash to the bed before the maid could answer the door and collect their things from Elmo.

Currently they were sitting in the banquet hall, near the head of the table, with Elin sitting next to Samantha and Kim across the table from her. There were sandwiches on the table, some filled with meat and some filled with a kind of jelly that Kim couldn't place, but was rather enjoyable. The sandwiches had already been refilled twice by the servants, so Kim was sure that they could eat their fill without having to worry about running out.

"What can you tell me about what you've been doing?" Samantha asked over lunch, her eyes glittering with excitement.

Apparently they hadn't gotten to a few subjects that the girl wanted to talk about, although Kim doubted that the girl could get to all of them in one sitting. Mostly because Kim doubted the girl could remember all of the subjects she wanted to know about. Which was typical for anyone.

"Well, we fought..." Kim trailed off, suddenly realizing she wasn't sure anymore exactly every creature they'd fought.

"There were skeletons, kobolds, lizardmen, a troll, a giant spider, goblins, and doppelgangers," Elin supplied after Kim was quiet for a few minutes, sounding sure of what she said.

Kim merely sighed. How Elin could remember that when she wasn't sure herself, she could only wonder. Though, it did tell her that Elin wasn't as carefree as she appeared at times. That she did have a good memory and head on her at times.

"You mean, in addition to people, right?" Samantha asked as she stared at a sandwich in her hands, looking a little sad.

"Why should I mention that?" Elin asked, as she bit into a sandwich.

"Because of what happened last night," Samantha answered, looking at Elin, her eyes glistening with tears.
