Minutes later, on Highway 104 near the rice paddies, Haru gasped for breath as he slowly relaxed his tense muscles.
The recent life-or-death battle against Yama had left his blood racing, but after a grueling fight and using every trick up his sleeve, he had finally managed to defeat the Heretic God.
Or so he thought.
Haru's face suddenly paled. Despite believing he had successfully slain the god, he hadn't felt any influx of power, nor had the egg given him any notification. To avoid misjudging the situation, he quickly entered his soul space to check the egg's analysis.
The only rule regarding death energy within the egg confirmed Haru's fear: the Heretic God Yama wasn't dead.
The Core within him slowly revolved, his body emitting a faint green glow. He activated his Life Authority, despite his fatigue, and the Earth Veins slowly replenished his depleted energy. Sensing the clear anomaly, Haru became wary, his body tensing up.
Thud, thud. Footsteps echoed behind him. Haru spun around to face the approaching figure and gasped in shock. "It's you!"
The newcomer wore a black suit jacket, a crisp white shirt, a tie, and his hair was neatly slicked back. He looked to be around seventy years old, resembling a wise and intellectual gentleman. But what stood out most were his piercing emerald eyes, like those of a wolf.
