Chapter 256: Even if you escape me, you won’t survive.
Lorie held the knife out in front of her, both hands clenched tightly around the handle.
For a split second, Robert hesitated, his steps faltering. The fire in her eyes wasn’t something he had seen before. She was cornered, desperate, and that made her unpredictable, dangerous.
But then he scoffed; his ego wouldn’t allow him to back down. ’She is just a woman,’ he told himself. ’A frightened little girl playing tough.’
He was stronger than her and could easily subdue her.
"You think you are going to fight me with that kitchen knife?" he sneered, taking a step closer. "Go on then. Hit me." He stretched his arms out wide, wiggling his fingers in challenge, daring her to strike.
Lorie’s heart pounded against her ribs. Her grip tightened further. "Don’t come closer," she shouted. "I’ll kill you—I swear I will."
But Robert kept coming, slow and deliberate, ignoring her warning like it was a joke.
Lorie’s hands were slick with sweat. Her arms trembled. She took a shaky step back, fear rising fast, her resolve starting to crumble.
"I mean it," she screamed. "Stay away."
Still, he advanced.
Cornered and trembling, Lorie snapped. With a panicked cry, she lunged forward, slashing the knife at him.
