Denis mistook her silence for belief. He held her hands firmly. "I’m telling you the truth," he said desperately. "I dug into his past. His success, his wealth—it’s all built on shadows. He is not just a businessman. He was a savage underground fighter... ruthless and feared."
Pulling out his phone, Denis swiped quickly and turned the screen toward her. A series of images flashed—Augustine in a blood-streaked fighting ring, fists clenched, eyes blazing, his body marked with bruises and scars. His feral expression could chill anyone’s blood.
"Look at this," Denis pointed at the screen. "This is who he really is. They call him the devil. Rumors said that he had a strong connection with the mafia king. Do you still want to stay by the side of a man like him?"
Anne stared at the photos. She had seen Augustine’s world and accepted its dangers, but seeing these brutal images stirred unease. She feared what Denis might do. Would he use these images to manipulate Augustine?
"You are in danger with him," Denis insisted. "Leave him before it’s too late."
A steely voice sliced through the moment like a blade. "Let her go."
Both Anne and Denis turned to the source of the voice. Anne saw Sam standing a few paces away, his expression carved from stone. His clenched jaw, the cold glint in his eyes, and the quiet tension in his muscular frame all screamed a silent threat. He was ready to fight.
Denis immediately dropped Anne’s hands, his bravado shrinking in Sam’s intimidating presence. Without another word, he backed away, spun on his heel, and disappeared down the street, never daring to glance back.
Anne shrugged, relieved that Denis didn’t make a scene.
Sam’s eyes followed him until he vanished, then shifted to Anne.
"Madam, are you alright?" Sam asked, his gaze scanning her face.
