Chapter 147: Megan and Lorie’s meeting
Anne’s heart thudded uneasily. She sensed it immediately — something wasn’t right. The tension radiating from the butler only deepened her anxiety.
"Is... is everything okay?" she asked.
"Please, madam." He gestured toward the open car door. "You will understand once you get there."
Anne hesitated for a moment longer before finally sliding into the back seat. The butler quickly closed the door behind her and climbed into the passenger seat. Without another word, the driver pulled away from the curb.
Anne gripped her bag tightly on her lap, staring out of the tinted windows as the city blurred past. A knot twisted in her stomach. She didn’t know what was waiting for her at the mansion.
Across the street, Lorie stood still, her sharp eyes locked on the scene unfolding before her. Quickly raising her phone, she snapped several pictures of Anne getting into the car with the elderly man.
Her lip curled in contempt as she muttered under her breath, "How shameless you are. Already clinging to Augustine, and now throwing yourself at an old man for money."
Bitter fury burned through her veins.
"Because of you," she seethed, nails digging into her palms. "I ended up marrying that bastard, Robert. I lost my job. Got blacklisted from every major firm. You destroyed my career, my life."
