Chapter 1 - 001: Realizing Only After 3 Years
Rumble.
The piercing sound of thunder seemed particularly sinister in the quiet hospital corridor. As the thunder faded, the sound of wind mixed with rain furiously roared in.
Munni sat on the bench in the hallway outside the emergency room, her delicate features enveloped by heartbreaking helplessness and fear. She repeatedly dialed a number ingrained in her mind.
Yet, all she received was the cold, mechanical voice of a woman—"Sorry, the number you have dialed is currently switched off. Please try again later."
But she seemed not to understand the meaning of that mechanical voice, mechanically continuing to dial again and again, as if by doing so, the other party would turn on the phone and answer her call.
At this moment, the door of the emergency room opened, and a doctor and nurse walked out.
Munni quickly stood up and hurriedly asked, "Doctor Zhang, how is my father's condition?"
Doctor Zhang took off the mask from his face, a trace of heaviness and helplessness showing through, "Munni, I did my best."
