Chapter 357 - 255 The Train Brings (Fourth Update)
Chen Xin and Cao Daren were working vigorously, but the operations at Lin City’s train station did not stop.
Or perhaps it should be put another way; the transportation of railway supplies at Lin City did not come to a halt.
During the time when the rescue team arrived in Lin City, trains still delivered urgently needed supplies and coal to the city every week.
And Lin City also needed to organize a large workforce to unload as much of the supplies and coal as possible during the train’s stopover.
Perhaps such activities were organized before, or maybe it was because the snowstorm had subsided making it easier to load and unload supplies without interference from the storm, or perhaps both. Chen Xin saw that Lin City Hall had organized a large labor force, and as soon as the train stopped, they began to unload the supplies from the train like ants moving house.
It had been mentioned before that, due to the time restrictions imposed by the train schedule, the stopping and traveling time of each train was fixed. Under such circumstances, if the supplies couldn’t be unloaded as quickly as possible, the train would leave as soon as it reached the designated stopping time.
For a city that already lacks supplies, this would certainly be unacceptable.
Although the staff on the train were not without compassion and would help as much as they could, the extent of their assistance was limited, only extending a thirty-minute stop by three to five minutes as they could cover the lost time by traveling a bit faster on the tracks.
Thus, Lin City Hall organized a large workforce to carry the supplies delivered by the train in an ant-like manner.
Even though Lin City allocated a large workforce and everyone worked hard to carry the supplies from the train, time was ultimately limited, and the efficiency of loading and unloading was limited as well. Although most of the supplies were unloaded within the time limit, a portion of the coal still wasn’t fully unloaded.
The train sounded its whistle, as staff helped Lin City’s people load the last bag of coal, closing the doors only after the wheels began to roll.
Watching the train depart, these people then started to organize the supplies they had just unloaded, preparing to transport them away.
At this time, Chen Xin also shifted his focus back, preparing to return and continue manufacturing parts for the heating hub. He had already cast enough metal ingots, the parts were mostly made, and the heating hub could soon be constructed.
But just as Chen Xin turned to leave, someone called out to him from behind, "Mr. Chen, wait a moment!"
Chen Xin stopped and turned around, seeing two people dressed in protective suits.
This surprised Chen Xin somewhat, as although Lin City had similarly received exoskeletons and protective suits, the quantity wasn’t large. Among the people unloading supplies earlier, quite a few were just in their own clothes without protective suits.
When the two reached him, Chen Xin recognized one of them as someone he knew, a researcher from a scientific institution in the city, while the other person seemed familiar, as if he had seen him in Three Towns before, but he couldn’t quite recall.
"Hello, Mr. Chen, I’m from a scientific institution in Three Towns, we met once before." This person introduced himself to Chen Xin and explained his purpose: "I came from Three Towns to find you."
"Coming all the way from Three Towns to find me? Is there something going on?" Chen Xin raised an eyebrow, curious about what could have warranted this person’s special trip from Three Towns to find him.
"Here’s the thing. Because of your presence in Lin City, many projects we collaborated on have been affected. So, I specifically came to ask when you might return, or if we should transport project samples to Lin City instead." This person clarified his purpose in finding Chen Xin, and then looked at him expectantly, awaiting his response.
Chen Xin froze for a moment after hearing his words, then he realized that coming to Lin City with the rescue team meant he essentially left all the work in the city behind.
He was no longer just by himself. After agreeing to cooperate with the country, he was involved in many projects. A special team was organized just for him, and numerous research institutions were impacted because of him...
It could be said that now, even if Chen Xin sneezed, it would make a bunch of people anxious, yet here he was, insisting on coming to Lin City to join a rescue team!
Knowing this, the person in charge of the special team almost got high blood pressure from stress.
However, they didn’t want Chen Xin to feel his freedom was being restricted, as his abilities were extremely crucial for Flame Country at the moment. Given that Chen Xin hadn’t made any demands, he could have otherwise enjoyed top-tier treatment.
So, after balancing the situation, they decided to send someone to inquire. If Chen Xin returned to work soon, it would be a win-win situation. If he didn’t want to return for a while, they would have to appease him, sending various project samples to Lin City for Chen Xin to modify and upgrade, as to not delay the research progress as much as possible.
Chen Xin naturally understood the meaning behind the visitor’s words, so he nodded and said, "I’ll be in Lin City for a while longer. If you can send the project samples to Lin City, that would be best. However, considering the current situation in Lin City, I think you should consider having someone drive over from the city, as it’s quite troublesome to unload on this side of the railway."
"Understood, I will convey your message to the higher-ups, for them to coordinate. As for how to transport the project samples to Lin City, I believe the higher-ups will make appropriate arrangements." The person who came to see Chen Xin seemed to be a clerical officer, speaking with a somewhat bureaucratic tone.
Chen Xin didn’t mind this, simply nodding in agreement, then he turned to the researcher beside him and said, "Your visit is actually timely. I’m working on a project here in Lin City. I mentioned it to the person in charge before; if we make progress, we could achieve an efficient way to utilize deep geothermal resources."
"Utilizing deep geothermal resources?" The two exchanged a glance, very curious as to what Chen Xin was talking about.
"It’s hard to explain just like this, it’s easier to see it with your own eyes." Having difficulty explaining, Chen Xin decided to take the two to the drilling site, pointing to the rig and saying, "We’re drilling a well here with plans to reach the hot dry rock layer three thousand meters underground. Equipment will be installed at the wellhead to extract deep geothermal energy for heating and power generation, among other uses."
