Chapter 310 - 308 Arrive at the Station to Unload (First Update)
When the new-style train, loaded with production equipment, arrived in the city where Chen Xin was located, the blizzard miraculously began to weaken.
This blizzard, which had ravaged for more than half a month, finally showed signs of calming down. Although the temperature was still below seventy degrees, the wind force had decreased from level twelve to level ten.
It seemed that after violently sweeping through most of the Flame Country, this terrible blizzard had exhausted its momentum.
This gave the survivors who had endured this blizzard for half a month a ray of hope, even though the days weren’t as difficult for this city.
The cause of the blizzard is currently inconclusive, but according to some information obtained by Chen Xin from research institutions, this blizzard should just be the past cold wave.
However, without the regulation of atmospheric circulation and the heat brought by sunlight, this cold wave did not dissipate in a short time but continued to affect for more than half a month and appears to persist for a while longer.
For Chen Xin, it’s hard to say this is good news, even though he has always hoped the blizzard could end sooner.
Standing on the platform of the train station wearing Power Armor, Chen Xin raised his hand to wipe off the snow accumulated on his visor and looked up at the end of the tracks within his view.
There, a train was pushing against the snow, driving towards the station like a beast.
Before the blizzard arrived, the tracks were already buried by snow. The train had to push against the thick snow to move forward, which made each train, just like cars before disasters that would splash water without slowing down, kick up two spectacular waves of snow.
Illuminated by the train’s headlights, the two snow waves were lit brightly, resembling the frill of a frilled lizard.
Though they appeared grayish and gradually became smaller as the train slowed down, in this raging snowy cold night, they were symbols of hope.
The train slowly docked at the platform, where the snow had long been cleared out, despite the howling wind covering the just-cleaned platform with a layer of snow within minutes.
As the train doors opened, several staff members came out, though clearly they were not yet accustomed to the nearly seventy-degree temperature difference between the inside and outside of the train. Instantly coated with a layer of white frost, their bodies froze for a moment.
Fortunately, their clothing was thick enough, and their faces were well covered. They quickly recovered and greeted Chen Xin and others on the platform: "Hello, comrade. We are here to deliver equipment. Who is responsible for receiving it?"
"I am. Please show me the delivery list," indicated a staff member beside Chen Xin, quickly stepping forward to handle the handover.
While the staff on both sides were handling the handover, Chen Xin was carefully observing the train before him.
Under the platform lights, the entire train appeared silver-white, looking somewhat similar to the high-speed trains of the past, with each car closely connected to the next. However, the cars lacked the windows of high-speed trains, making them look more like iron boxes.
But from the white vapor continuously effusing from the opened door, it could be seen that the temperature inside the cars was not low, and the lights were bright inside, clearly not lacking in electricity.
This piqued Chen Xin’s interest, prompting him to use his system upgrade perspective to observe this train closely.
Naturally, Chen Xin discovered that this was a nuclear-powered train.
"Is this a nuclear-powered train? Has our country already managed to apply nuclear reactors to trains?" Chen Xin couldn’t help but ask aloud.
Upon hearing Chen Xin’s inquiry, a staff member who had deboarded from the train responded with pride, "Yes, this is humanity’s first nuclear-powered train in a true sense. Without the nation’s breakthroughs in nuclear reactor technology, we wouldn’t be able to realize such an astonishing concept."
"A nuclear-powered train, indeed astonishing!" Chen Xin couldn’t help but nod in agreement with this sentiment.
"Comrade, the gear you’re wearing should be nuclear-powered too, right? It seems the nation has indeed achieved quite remarkable breakthroughs in nuclear energy applications!" remarked the staff member, looking curiously at Chen Xin in his ironclad suit.
"This? It counts as nuclear-powered, but it’s different from the reactor used on the train. I just use radioactive isotopes," Chen Xin explained, feeling somewhat eager to board the train for a tour, as anyone would want to broaden their horizons with such a marvel.
However, wearing Power Armor made it quite troublesome for Chen Xin to board the train.
Although there were doors on the train body, due to weather reasons, the doors were narrower than normal to facilitate cold protection.
Ordinary people could enter normally, but those wearing thicker layers might find the doors a bit narrow. In Chen Xin’s case, wearing Power Armor, no matter what, he couldn’t squeeze through.
But just then, the side wall of one train car opened entirely, rising upwards like a box lid opening to the roof, revealing the interior.
This greatly surprised Chen Xin, who had never seen a train open its "door" in such a manner.
"Since the train has ample electricity, we adopted this method to open the car, which also facilitates loading and unloading of goods," a staff member proudly explained.
Opening the door this way is indeed much more convenient than ordinary doors, allowing both bulk and loose goods to be loaded or unloaded more easily.
Like now, because the entire side of the car was open, forklifts that had long been waiting on the platform directly drove over, picking up goods within the car and transporting them out, loading them onto trucks beside.
Previously, forklifts were also used, but definitely not as convenient and swift as now.
In no time, the goods in this car were unloaded, and simultaneously, some prepared goods on the platform were loaded onto the train.
These were products from projects improved through Chen Xin by research institutions, and due to the blizzard, they had been stranded here. Now with the arrival of this special train, naturally, they had to be transported away.
Aside from this car, other cars were also fully loaded with goods; however, the loading and unloading capacity on the platform was limited, allowing only one car to be unloaded at a time.
Therefore, once one car was unloaded and started being loaded, the second car opened its wall and began unloading.
Watching the orderly loading and unloading on the platform, Chen Xin finally couldn’t resist asking the staff nearby, "Can I board to take a look? This train is not just a freight train, right?"
"Of course, we also have passenger cars. But if you want to board, you might need to take off this iron suit," the staff did not prevent Chen Xin from boarding but indicated he needs to remove his Power Armor.
