Chapter 305 - 303: Master of Casting
At the workbench, Chen Xin was designing his own multi-tool.
Although this idea was inspired by the omni-tool from the game "Mass Effect," unlike in the game where a single chip implantation could achieve all functions, Chen Xin couldn’t create such a tool, or rather, didn’t have enough survival points and resources to upgrade it.
So, Chen Xin planned to make a mechanical arm integrating all commonly used tools together, which was equivalent to carrying a toolbox on him.
And after equipping it with a micro-computer and scanning analysis instruments, this mechanical arm could analyze the situation by itself and replace suitable tools, eliminating the user’s hassle of changing different types of wrenches and screwdrivers.
People who don’t work in factories may never understand how annoying it is to not have the right wrench or screwdriver when doing on-site construction.
Sometimes it might be just because a wrench is missing, the work has to be delayed for hours or even days to borrow or buy one, which often results in significant time delays, and a day’s downtime for factory equipment can cost hundreds of thousands or even millions.
So having such a mechanical arm would indeed be a fantastic choice, even if it turns out to be heavy, it’s worth it.
Chen Xin was imagining this mechanical arm in his mind while also gathering the items he needed.
There’s no ready-made micro-computer, but Chen Xin found an old phone as a substitute, it’s not useful for anything else now, perfect to use as a replacement.
As for analysis and detection instruments, Chen Xin put together a camera, a temperature gun, a rangefinder, a speedometer, a tachometer... a whole bunch of things, although it seemed a bit much, once integrated, it would be fine.
The tools part was the simplest, just taking out a toolbox can meet various needs.
But besides these, Chen Xin also wanted to add a 3D printer on it.
This idea came from Chen Xin’s father’s suggestion, long-time on-site construction personnel know that sometimes parts need to be processed on-site, like welding a bracket, connecting an elbow, or even temporarily processing a part...
Because on-site construction often encounters all sorts of situations, equipment that doesn’t fit, mismatched parts, it’s all too common. In Chen Xin’s father’s decades-long career, he can’t even remember how many parts he had to process on-site.
So seeing that Chen Xin wanted to integrate a multi-tool, as a father, he gave his son a bit of elder’s experience.
Chen Xin naturally accepted his father’s suggestion, and considered cutting, welding, sheet metal work, milling, these functions as necessary. But rather than materials processing parts on-site, Chen Xin was more inclined to directly 3D print a suitable part.
However, he currently didn’t have a 3D printer at hand, so this feature had to be delayed, waiting until he finishes the mechanical arm and then see if there are any alternative solutions for a secondary upgrade.
And not just the 3D printing wasn’t added, argon arc welding, electric welding, sheet metal, milling and these functions weren’t integrated due to lack of equipment, could only wait for a secondary upgrade.
But this wasn’t much of an issue for Chen Xin, it was just a matter of spending more survival points during the secondary upgrade.
Besides, even with these shortcomings, he was determined to finish this mechanical arm.
After gathering everything, Chen Xin found an angle iron, did some cutting and processing on the workbench, and started piling various tools and instruments on it.
This looked quite like a green-skinned tech brute contemplating a new big boom, as the sparks flew from metal cutting, it was a complete jumble of haphazardly piled tools, some instruments were even simply taped on...
The assembled finished product carried a strong wasteland punk style, very green-skinned in nature, rough, heavy, and couldn’t even be described as practical, completely just because "I feel like it’s good this way" and so it was done without any sense of reason or design guidelines.
Of course, what Chen Xin ultimately used wasn’t this green-skinned style object. In fact, the final assembled piece he couldn’t use either because the tools attached were simply too many, it was exhausting to even lift, let alone use.
So an upgrade was necessary.
After a green light flashed, the originally green-skinned style device turned into a mechanical arm with a Mechanical God Sect style. Although still robust and complex, it became much tidier, with no unnecessary wire ends or tape, the originally exposed angle iron turned into a silver-white support shaft, encased in a metal shell, becoming a mechanical arm in the true sense.
The various complicated tools and instruments that Chen Xin had jammed onto the mechanical arm were now well integrated, incorporated into the mechanical arm. Some replaceable parts and components were neatly stowed and could be easily switched at any time.
The entire mechanical arm looked like a large backpack, with a three-axis rotating mechanical arm folded at the back and a display screen next to it that could extend to beside the head for operation and data display.
Of course, the 3D printing, welding, sheet metal, cutting, and milling processes that Chen Xin needed earlier were now integrated into the mechanical arm, which could now handle all on-site construction needs. Chen Xin even added a detachable drill on it to mix cement if switched to a mixer.
Although the functionality was comprehensive, the integrated and upgraded mechanical arm also became lighter and more convenient to use, but after trying it, Chen Xin found it still couldn’t be easily used by one person.
At least, Chen Xin himself couldn’t easily lift it without wearing the Power Armor or Exoskeleton.
This left Chen Xin scratching his head, the tool was made, but he couldn’t lift it himself, which was truly ironic. Did it mean he had to get fit, train to be a weightlifter first, and then use it?
Or should he integrate it directly into the Power Armor and play the role of a Master of Casting from the Mechanical God Sect?
Chen Xin scratched his brow, thinking this was actually quite a good idea.
Moreover, he had to admit, he did feel quite like a Master of Casting now.
So he acted on his thoughts, brought over his Power Armor, and had Qin Lan, dressed in her Power Armor, help attach the entire mechanical arm to the back of his Power Armor.
Then... with another upgrade, a set of Power Armor with a mechanical arm appeared.
